Brudda Posted September 5, 2020 Author Posted September 5, 2020 Primed the body and doors, hood , deck lid and hood scoop. Needs more blocking. But for the first round, not bad. Used acid etch primer.
Dann Tier Posted September 6, 2020 Posted September 6, 2020 7 hours ago, Brudda said: Thank you Dann. Sandblasted the inside of the doors, hood , scoop and deck lid. Badger sand blaster. Comes in handy on white metal. That is soooo Brilliant!!!!!
Brudda Posted September 7, 2020 Author Posted September 7, 2020 Thank you Dann. After sanding and sanding and blocking the body it’s ready to paint. What I’m going to use. If the planets align, I might to be able to paint today. Painting is such an emotional thing.
Brudda Posted September 7, 2020 Author Posted September 7, 2020 Base coat. Wait a few hours then clear.
Brudda Posted September 7, 2020 Author Posted September 7, 2020 This basecoat is a bmw colorsystems paint. Water based. Their are advantages and disadvantages to water based paints. Advantages are easy clean up. Like tamiya, windex will work but I always flush out the guns with lacquer thinner after windex. Disadvantages are slow dry time. If you make a mistake, it takes longer to repair. I’m lucky because bmw paint says there is a shelf life so they replace it every two years. So I get the old stuff because they throw it out. I’m stocked for life on exterior paint. Three coats. Let dry then clear.
doorsovdoon Posted September 7, 2020 Posted September 7, 2020 Beautiful finish on that paint and it isn't even polished yet!
gman Posted September 7, 2020 Posted September 7, 2020 (edited) Agreed- that has given you a stunning finish. In spite of the intricacies of the MFH kit, it looks like you are taming it Edited September 8, 2020 by gman spelling
Brudda Posted September 7, 2020 Author Posted September 7, 2020 Thank you guys. Here is the clear, 4 coats.
Twokidsnosleep Posted September 7, 2020 Posted September 7, 2020 Fantastic paint so far and you have just started. Lovely coverage....real pro work there with that gun I suffer from that BMW policy of "Replace New" rather than repair anything...paying throughout the nose every service. Good to hear you are picking up their 'old' paint.
Brudda Posted September 7, 2020 Author Posted September 7, 2020 427 time! The white metal parts I’m going to sandblast. Leaves a realistic finish.
Brudda Posted September 7, 2020 Author Posted September 7, 2020 A lot of holes to drill. Better have a big assortment of drill bits. You will break some.
