Dave B Posted October 23, 2020 Posted October 23, 2020 This is my take on the Ford France entered GT40 roadster raced at Le Mans in 1965. It retired on lap 11 with a broken gearbox. The model is based on an old slot car body, possibly Monogram, fitted onto a Fujimi GT40 chassis and using Monogram 427 Cobra Halibrand wheels and tyres. I haven't done any of the fine detailing required for an accurate conversion, instead paying homage to it's slot car roots. Painted in auto acrylic with decals by Patto's. Regarding the interior colour, Ronnie Spain's tome, 'GT40 an individual history and race and record', states the interior trim was black however a small publication by John S Allen shows GT/108 with a well worn blue interior suggesting that most of it was original. I have used poetic license and have opted to go with a blue interior!! Tks for looking Dave B
Rich Chernosky Posted October 23, 2020 Posted October 23, 2020 Dave, I think this looks great. Great conversion work. I did something similar to this awhile back. Mine was the Targa Florio car.
1959scudetto Posted October 25, 2020 Posted October 25, 2020 Very nice variation of an epic race car !
vamach1 Posted October 27, 2020 Posted October 27, 2020 (edited) Very nice rendition of a kit many of us would like to see done in plastic I ended up buying the DDP kit which was over $200. I was not overly impressed with it given that the chassis is no more detailed than a 1990’s 1/43 starter kit and like the Fujimi kits no engine of course. Sadly there are not any realistic options out there but you found a way I plan to use the Fujimi chassis For the DDP kit similar to how CMA Years ago did a conversion kit for the Sebring winner and there’s a more recent conversion kit of sorts out there for the Fujimi kit but it requires chopping up the Fujimi body a lot. Fujimi got a lot of mileage out of the MKI and MKII bodies and you would think they would have done a roadster version by now but I guess that is no surprise given the Revell knock off kits were not completely accurate to do the 66 Daytona MKII So there’s much incentive if you can sell kits based upon the box art. Alas the aftermarket came to the rescue once again to do the Miles Daytona winner but I think this is the reason I gravitated to 1/43 kits in the 1990’s because there were so few decent 1/24 or 1/25 GT40 kits that were worth the money. I’ll post pictures of some of the kits I mentioned in a follow up post. For now imagine if all these were in 1/24 and had engines. Edited October 28, 2020 by vamach1

vamach1 Posted October 29, 2020 Posted October 29, 2020 (edited) I mentioned a few kits that are available ( DDP and a transkit) or were at one time (CMA and Starter and 1/87 LM ones) so feel free to ask questions. Edited October 29, 2020 by vamach1
Bainford Posted November 1, 2020 Posted November 1, 2020 Nice looking GT40 roadster, Dave. I like the blue interior.
