Mattilacken Posted October 16, 2021 Posted October 16, 2021 The team have made progress the cage have been rattle can sprayed black so it won’t be seen as well made a huge contrast to the chassis being white on the race car. And they made the masking as easy ass possible and some spaces could not be reached.

Unmarked car or Full Police Uniform? ? Just catching up on this thread. If it helps, the Arizona Highway Patrol runs some cars with low-vis markings. The car is silver with flat black markings. On another front life, parts, & making things realistic from the mundane point of view ( windshield wipers, mirrors, alternator, AC compressor) has slowed down the #22-'41 Willy's project, but it has given me the opportunity to brainstorm & try a few things. I am not ready to post anything yet. I have a new front end in place to replace the straight axle and am working out some clearance issues.
kermn8r Posted October 17, 2021 Posted October 17, 2021 Just as I hit submit, I thought of another option for markings. How about an ex police car sold at auction with the original markings over sprayed with primer? It would have the police car look, but not be tied to a particular area.

I'm gonna black out the windows, add spotlights, Washington DC licenses plates, and all the fancy trim to disguise the race car although it will still have the stance of a Nascar, at first glance it will appear as an unmarked police unit. I'm actually working on the Matador now, this kit is pretty Awesome for those who have turned their backs on it like I have... I recommend it! 1
camaro69 Posted October 17, 2021 Posted October 17, 2021 Hey guys, glad to you´re still moving on. Anton, I hope you´ll find the time to finish the Supra. Here some progress on my Impala. Side windows were made out of blister. Wheels and mirrors got color and I couldn´t resist to mockup...? Only thing that I don´t like is that the drivers side mirror stand up to the sky??? 1

camaro69 Posted October 17, 2021 Posted October 17, 2021 Thanks Anthony !!! I still hope to get over the finish line this year. If yes I definitely will join again next year although less spare time is still the biggest issue... There are so many 3d printing projects on my to do list. ?? 1

disconovaman Posted October 19, 2021 Author Posted October 19, 2021 Time for another update on the... "Uh-Oh,Gotta Go,it's the Po-Po" Nascar turned unmarked Police unit... Gotta say, I'm really hot and cold on this build but despite the lack of interest I'm really excited about how it's coming along... I'm really making some great progress... I'm leaning towards the Hot side at the moment! ? I sorted through all my late model Ford engine parts (Coyote, Cobra 4.6, 5.0 GT etc...etc...) ,only to find that the best option was to go with a HELLCAT! Hemi power for all those Mopar guys! I gave it a 4 door appearance and added window trim... Next I'll black out the side windows, so you won't see the rollcage. Pretty much completed all the chassis work with paint and details. All that... and I'm working effortlessly on that Matador too! Stay tuned for the Big Reveal on "Aunt Linda's AMC turned Cross County Cannonballer" More Later...

I kind of miss the roof latches they have, would have been a cool detail to notice when getting close! How about adding a nascar style rear wing in corvette fashion, see through?

I filled the mounting holes for the Nascar wing with the intent of excluding it, only because a factory stock Focus does not have one. Now the problem is... it may not draft exactly right at high speeds without it, bbuuuttt??? and those roof flaps keep the car grounded if it ever loses downward air force (that's my understanding) I filled those too, decided the car didn't need those either. ? I was about to ad the Nascar wing to the Matador before I painted it but ultimately I didn't want to disrupt the overall originality of how the original car looked. This is just my observation and interpretation of the Race Cars in disguise theme. As I write this post I have an idea I'll share later. This may or may not solve the drafting problems caused by not having a wing... so thanks for the impromptu brainstorming. ? 1

That being said, I pulled the body out a couple of days ago and found it to look like someone had been storing a 20 pound dumbbell on top of it. I tried to straighten it, but it only looks slightly better. It had already been trimmed and primed and was just waiting for paint. Maybe I can try my first ever chopped top, but I'm really not sold on that idea. So I will probably be using the stock body and just saving the work that I have done for a different project. I figured that I would add a picture of my slightly twisted body. This is after I tried to straighten it. It's actually worse now. Edited October 20, 2021 by stinkybritches Added info

Resin bodies are prone to warping if they aren't stored properly. I've seen some that were disfigured to the point you can't even identify what kind of car it was. I wrap rubber bands around mine and store them in a cool place. Just recently I bought two Chevy 4 door bodies. One of those was sitting on my desk as I was cleaning up the flashing. I noticed after a few days the driver side was starting to bow out. I put some rubber bands around it. The more I look at it, the top looks wavy and I don't know if it's worth using. Maybe you could use it as a rollover build, as a freshly crashed car up on a rollback. Add some weathering like it was turned over down a bank. Or you could build it as a rusted junkyard find.

Yes, it's a Flintstone body. I thought I had put the body in a hard plastic container to keep it safe. I thought wrong.
Mattilacken Posted October 21, 2021 Posted October 21, 2021 #19 JGTC Supra trying to be anonymous.. The tires have been sorted now, 3 Tamiya tires for a 16” rim made the rears to look beefy enough under that fat body. have also made 3 attempts on putting a kevelar/carbon backing on the seats…. We will se how it turns out to morrow when dry. have also scraped allot of body lines.

I do realize the risk I'm taking here...If I get pulled over I'm quite sure I'm going to jail for impersonating a Police officer! ??? But until then Y'all better watch out because the Cannonball Run Police Force is on your tails! ??? I'm rolling along and it shouldn't be much longer before I'm ready to hit the road!
spencer1984 Posted October 23, 2021 Posted October 23, 2021 That Ford looks great, a near-perfect plain brown wrapper.
Mattilacken Posted October 24, 2021 Posted October 24, 2021 Baby steps on #19. painted the A-arms with the airbrush, zero paints. First time masking more complex parts turned out ok. Also made some rubber and brake dust to the chassis. More dirt will come I guess. Also tried out Valejo metal color Steel, it’s nice but to dark for what I needed here, need to but stainless and aluminum.. layed out nice from the bottle but was a mess to clean in comparison to the stinky paint. and some real word racing references from 1995 in Japan.

camaro69 Posted October 25, 2021 Posted October 25, 2021 Hey guys, first of all nice progress here. @disconovaman Your Ford looks killer. Like a real sleeper... ? @Mattilacken Wish you get your Supra done till deadline... Here´s my next update from the work of the last two days. Worked on finishing the interior with the self casted seats and steering wheel 3d printed shift lever housing, the knob is made out of a needle with a white plastic head. The Impala also became a working rear suspension... VID_20211025_105914.mp4 brakes... and windshield wipers. The inner panels were disassembled and the dashboard rised again to get the engine in place. Once the engine sits in place all can be reassembled again. That´s it for today. Still a lot more to do. Model on, Rico
