Jim B Posted January 2, 2021 Posted January 2, 2021 I have managed to get some assembly done on my 1976 Chevrolet Bison: I'm not making it a tractor, but a stake bed. Here is the GW Trucks Detroit Diesel 6V92T (as yo know, the kit comes with a Detroit Diesel 8V92N) Mock up of what I'm looking for: I think the rear suspension need to go a little further back.
Rockford Posted January 2, 2021 Posted January 2, 2021 I agree on the wheelbase, few more inches for a rigid ( as straight trucks are known in GB). Very brave dropping the V8 to a V6, didn't even know they did a Detroit V6.
Pete68 Posted January 3, 2021 Posted January 3, 2021 Jim. Looks good it probably look a little better moved back but that just my opinion. Updates looks nice
Jim B Posted January 3, 2021 Author Posted January 3, 2021 Thanks, guys. Yes, I think a little more wheelbase is a good idea.
signguy2108 Posted January 3, 2021 Posted January 3, 2021 Don't see enough flatbeds on here, should be cool, and a little more w/b will help the looks.
gotnitro? Posted January 3, 2021 Posted January 3, 2021 Good start Jim you'll have it sorted out in no time Nice engine swap !
Jim B Posted January 3, 2021 Author Posted January 3, 2021 (edited) Thanks, guys. I want to finish up the DAF XF105 that I started a couple of weeks ago before I get too deep into this one. Edited January 3, 2021 by Jim B
tbill Posted January 3, 2021 Posted January 3, 2021 Looking good Jim, I like your line of thinking on this build.
Jim B Posted January 3, 2021 Author Posted January 3, 2021 Thanks, Tom. Hopefully I'll be able to transfer my vision in my head to my hands. Doesn't always seem to work out that way some times.
Olskoolrodder Posted January 4, 2021 Posted January 4, 2021 I don't think I've seen this kit being built before, I'm looking forward to it! Off to a great start
Jim B Posted January 4, 2021 Author Posted January 4, 2021 Thanks, Stephen. This build will be a little different that the box-stock I usually do. Kind of out of my comfort zone with this one. I've already shortened the frame a little to accommodate the GW Trucks shorter hood (an managed to cut off the engine mounts in the process). The spring rear suspension is from the AMT GMC Astro, as I'm not planning on using the stock air-ride setup. I figured that was more appropriate for a "bare bones" truck a lumber company might buy. Who knows what might happen with this build. It might all go to hell in a handbasket, if you know what I mean. ?
gotnitro? Posted January 4, 2021 Posted January 4, 2021 Jim B - nah you've got this ! Best part of model building is making something unique and learning skills rarely used imo Losing the air bag suspension was a good option
Olskoolrodder Posted January 4, 2021 Posted January 4, 2021 It's sounding more and more interesting/cool as you describe it, my friend! :D
DRIPTROIT 71 Posted January 6, 2021 Posted January 6, 2021 This is a great project! I like the short hood straight truck idea. Then you top it off with a 6v-92T. I’m looking forward to seeing this one!
Jim B Posted January 6, 2021 Author Posted January 6, 2021 Been working on the 6V92T. I just need to rust up the manifolds & the turbo pipes, then I'll post some pics.
Mopar - D Posted January 7, 2021 Posted January 7, 2021 Looking forward to seeing your pictures of your engine.
Bronzekeg Posted January 10, 2021 Posted January 10, 2021 the bison is one kit I gotta have. you have a great transformation going on, following.
