BIGTRUCK Posted February 8, 2021 Posted February 8, 2021 Since I retired last month ( I really work 2 days a week to stay somewhat fit) I have a lot of time to build what I have stashed away for many years. So now I can complete this J/F resin build. It involved the usual inside clean up so things will fit right. The 59 chevy El Camino is the donor except I opted to use a 63 Impala chassis with a engine blank since its a curbside build and the easiest way to alter the ride stance. The interior tub leading edges needed a trim to clear the fender tubs Parts box wide whites , chrome wheels and skirts.. No theme yet, just smoothing it out.
Tom Geiger Posted February 8, 2021 Posted February 8, 2021 Hey Ken, the Buicks still had a perimeter frame in 1959-60. This is the frame under one of those original kits. I did the same thing with my 60 Buick custom, don’t know if it matters to you, just mentioning it before you get too far! Been bit, warning others! ?

misterNNL Posted February 8, 2021 Posted February 8, 2021 Whoever did the master for this conversion did an excellent job. The proportions are very nice. The base Buick was a huge car so this could have turned out very badly. I we watching this one closely. My vote would be a low as slow cruiser with a slick paint job. Enjoy your retirement and enjoy the bench time that it affords. I review 10 years ago at 68 with no regrets.
Tom Geiger Posted February 8, 2021 Posted February 8, 2021 No worries! I just hate it when people follow your build all the way through, and once it’s finished someone says, “Ya know...”. ?

I hang out with a few replica stock builders and threaten to glue all the custom parts on their completed builds when they go on vacations.?
Tom Geiger Posted February 9, 2021 Posted February 9, 2021 Ha! There’s a guy in New Jersey who only builds replica stock.. which he calls “as God intended.” So we nicknamed him Hot Rod!
bisc63 Posted February 15, 2021 Posted February 15, 2021 I've been hovering over the trigger to buy one of these, it really has a cool look. I envision an early seventies custom hot rod, jacked up in back just a little, to give more clearance for big meats on Cragars. Wild candy paint with ribbons, bubbles, flake!? Will be following your approach with much interest!
Modlbldr Posted February 15, 2021 Posted February 15, 2021 I'll be watching your build with interest since I have one of these bodies too. It does have nice proportions. Later-
BIGTRUCK Posted February 24, 2021 Author Posted February 24, 2021 Got my focus back on this Buick and made up some rear lights, and I needed to break up the long area behind the roof and tried a few ideas with some custom parts.. Interior pretty much done. When using the 59 chevy el camino glass it needs to be split into 2 pieces, front and back. Leaving it in 1 piece just didnt work on the body I have, and I got the roof inside sanded pretty thin, rear glass bottom edge needed some work to fit close too.

My Kindle still thinks it knows what I want to say.
BIGTRUCK Posted February 26, 2021 Author Posted February 26, 2021 There was a slight sag at the rear roof line that needed the hot/cold water treatment before painting. When I decided on colors I wanted something in green but not dark. The interior was done with thinned "Cockpit green" with a slightly darker cockpit green accents on the panels and some on the dash and some Ivory white to break it up. The bodies final primer coat was a flat white, then 2 mist coats of Silver Leaf and the final color is Pearl Green. I thought maybe a little Clear Pearl gloss, but am afraid it wont look right with interior. Used a hole punch to make backer plates for the tail lights, If remember right the lights are from the AMT 50 Ford. Back on hold again with this one while paint cures.
Steve H Posted March 3, 2021 Posted March 3, 2021 Hi Ken, this is looking fantastic, nice body mods and great colour choice.
