Yo buddy.  I was on the Mecum Auction site this morning and came across this Double Nickel and thought of your build. Only difference is yours is a 210.

Yep, I saw that car also when looking at pictures for this build.  The model actually is a Bel Air 2Dr Sedan.  About ready to go to the garage to clear it!! Crossing my fingers LOL!!    BTW, that is a beautiful car.

I just shot the clear gloss on my Nova about 1 1/2 hrs ago.  Came out pretty good.

So far I have put about 5 coats of clear leveling it with the hair dryer after each coat.  So far so good.  Gonna let it sit about another 1/2 hour and put a couple more coats.

Mike, looks like you may have gotten the dryer a lttle to close.

Look on the positive side Mike.  The area needing re-worked is the easiest spot on the car.  You've got the experience so it should come out pretty good.

Mike, hows the black on the roof coming along?

Well as you know, I repainted all the black and it "krinkled" again (and as before just the roof).  Different black and one I used on 2 other builds. I'm don't plan on re-painting the roof again for the third time (i'm done with it). Since the clear sanded  down smooth before I did the last spray of the clear I'm gonna sand it again to get the krinkle out, polish sand it with finer paper and just polish it and leave it if it looks good.  Maybe use Future on just the roof when it's done.     Total frustration has set in my Friend!!

You'll get there Mike.  I'm going to let the clear gloss on my 66 Nova set til Monday (4 days drying) then maybe just a little wet sanding then polish it.

Sounds like a plan , Mike. The future wont give you any problems as far as wrinkling goes. i'm sure it will turn out awesome, just like all your builds . Just like that Beautiful black Mustang.

Keep at it Mike, the ones that throw the curve balls at ya, are the ones that usually turn out the coolest!

Thanks Chaz, I hope so.

I'm curious if you followed the same process on both builds if that's the case? I noticed you used a hair dryer in-between clear coats, might that actually be the culprit? When I use a hair dryer between coats with craft paints, I change the setting to cool. It would be a shame if the roof didn't turn out as that's a pretty striking color combo!

I did use the same process Craig and thats the stumper.  I do think the dryer is probably the problem, but if I remember, I didn't use it as aggresively the second time. What's interesting is its just the top surfaces that has the issue (top of the hood, top of the trunk (tho less of the problem on the trunk)  I will be sanding it again in a little while and see how it comes out.

And yes, when I look at it from a bit of a distance, It looks soooo good.

WTH!!!!!!!!!!!!

After some pretty agressive sanding and using various automotive liquid compounds I was able to repair the crinkle issue. What a relief!!

Kudos on your scratchbuiding skills as well as your perseverance.  Paint fiascos can be devastating so I'm glad to see you were able to resolve the issue and have it turn out so well.

Also happy to hear you were able to make the resin hood fit better.  I don't know much about using that stuff, so the hair dryer trick wouldn't have even occurred to me.
