I see the board has been upgraded. Unfortunately the same method, that I have been using to add photos to the forums do not work. Any reasons why???? I have been using Fokti the whole time.

We've had some major problems with outside photo services hosting pictures. Photo Bucket is not a good name around here.

I recommend directly uploading the pictures with the attachment facility just below where you enter text. You can either drag and drop the files, or choose them individually.

Kurt,

if you are using "BBS code" from Flicker ( the actual URL of the image is surrounded by [IMG]  [/IMG]) then the new version of the forum does not accept that, and shows it as a link in your post.  Use direct link to your photo, or strip the [IMG][/IMG] tags when you are pasting the link into your post.

Already tried that. Doesn't work. You can see the original post in the forum that I posted. I posted three versions of the codes and it still doesn't work.

Charles, I'm not sure how you are inserting the photo, but it seems that you are using the "Link" button instead of just taking the photo's URL and just pasting it directly into the text editing area.  Here is one of your photos which i inserted that way:

Dave Ambrose,  this change in the way the forum interprets the links to externally hosted photos seems to be causing quite a bit of pain and confusion.  Is there any way to change some forum setting so it accepted the photos the way the previous version of the forum did?

Pete. I've been using the same method you been showing me the whole time. I am always offered different methods, with links, and I always choose the same ones. Since the change, it seems everything has gone haywire. But exatly what you have said, I have done. I have tried every link method. I notice immediately when I attached the links to the forum, I see the photo, then automatically it disappears. Strange.

I guess then maybe @Dave Ambrose can look into what the problem is.  What kind of device and OS version, and browser do you use to access the forum?  That info should help him in figuring out the problem.  I use a Dell laptop and Windows 7 with Seamonkey (Mozilla-based) browser.

Can you right click on the pictures on Fotki and save them to your computer? Then upload directly to your post by clicking “choose files”?

For Fotki, click Share, then click the text for Image URL for use on other sites:, wait for it to say that it has been copied. Then paste the info into your post.

I believe this will pull the photo from the Fotki site every time someone views the post with the thread. That means photos will NOT show if link changes or Fotki site is down.

That procedure should be similar for most photo hosting sites.

Again, it is better if you directly upload your photo directly to the board. As long as the site is up, the photos will be here and visible.

While I agree that hosting photos directly on this site is the best option, I just thought of another possibility why even simple URL link from Fotki still shows up as a link, not a photo.  It is possible that the URL link coped from Fotki site contains some hidden tag or metadata and this forum displays it as a link instead of expanding it into a photo.

Next time someone tries to post a photo (just a direct URL link, no [IMG][/IMG] tags), copy it from Fotki, then paste it into Windows Notepad.  Notepad is a text-only editor and it will strip any hidden metadata.  Then copy that URL from Notepad, then past it into this forum's post editor window.

And what browser?

I'm using Chrome. I guess I'll just have to upload directly to the forum instead...

testing links, but none seem to work. The funny thing is, the Britmodeler forum use the same forum program and the links work on their forum:

Have you tried pasting this link https://images44.fotki.com/v1405/photos/0/3821280/16356163/ukrainian_6447_5247H_titan4-vi.jpg  into Windows Notepad, then copying it from notepad and pasting it into the forums post composing window like this:

ukrainian_6447_5247H_titan4-vi.jpg

After pasting it, make sure to hit "Enter" to get the photo  to show up. Seems that hitting "Enter" is important.  It works without hitting "Enter".

  • 5 weeks later...

There are times, when I don't care to download/copy/upload a picture.  I'm testing how to link to Flickr......

[url=https://flic.kr/p/2m1cpxD][img]https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/51198053343_1cc56a7377_c.jpg[/img][/url][url=https://flic.kr/p/2m1cpxD]Two Guns[/url] by [url=https://www.flickr.com/photos/53074154@N00/]Kurt Womack[/url], on Flickr

[img]https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/51198053343_1cc56a7377_c.jpg[/img]

Nothing happens.  But immediately after I click *edit*, a tiny revolving icon shows up before the edit window appears.

Using the Embed option:

<a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/53074154@N00/14223515433/in/album-72157640097889644/" title="Flickr Vega"><img src="https://live.staticflickr.com/5506/14223515433_73e429dc8f_z.jpg" width="628" height="317" alt="Flickr Vega"></a><script async src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js" charset="utf-8"></script>

Nope, here is the Share option:

Flickr Vega

Good, this works.

That’s exactly what I do!  Once the photo is on this site, I simply delete it from the photos kept on my phone.

I didn't realize it, but the new version doesn't have an image button in the editor. I'll get that added back in. In the meantime, you should be able to just paste the link in, and the editor will automagically [sic] generate a preview.

Dave, while it is a god ideal to add the image button to the text editor choices, I don't believe it is the problem.  It seems that something has changed in the way the text edit window handled pasted links to photos. Multiple people seem to have the problem where the method of linking to photos from outside sites )which worked for years) no longer works in the current version of the forum.  Maybe you could look into whether there is a way to make it work the same way as it did in the past.

I don't use external hosting so I don't have a problem, but I have tried helping numerous members who started having problems with linking photos from external sites.
