The Bentley Speed 8. I  do have a set from harbor freight,  I wasn't sure how long they would last.

Timonator, the harbor drill bits do not last long on white metal. I drill slow and they seem to last longer.

Ok starting this one again. Layed her out and looks as if I’m going to have to paint the chassis, mask all the tubes for the frame. Since this is a what if, I’m going to paint her a light pearl blue with orange to look like the gulf colors. The framing will be painted orange. It will take some time and a lot of tamiya tape. Here we go again

Took a read of the whole thread and my head is spinning. I love the outrageous 935/78 and your build is amazing so far. MFH kits are for the very best builders (certainly not for me) and is is so much fun following this.

Also, glad to see you're on this one again. Incredible work.

Thought I would show a pic of my Nitto 1/28 Porsche 935/78 (built 40 years ago) to show the opposite of your well detailed kit. I think it cost $3.00 then. An okay three footer.

Will be following your build.

It's nice seeing this one back on the bench Bruce.

I think the Gulf livery is a great idea! One of my favorite paint schemes.

Since it’s a “ what if build”, I was looking at the rear of the car and the wing and long tail just looks odd to me. So I asked Claude for some tips to make it look better as a model. So I will be experimenting with cardboard paper to see how it looks. Maybe that’s why they called her Moby dick.

Fitting the engine and trans. I will be painting the chassis a light pearl blue with the tubes orange. So this will take awhile. A lot of masking. All of the tubes will be painted orange. I believe this will make the engine compartment and interior look very cool. A lot of work but I believe it will be worth it. Claude made a great suggestion on the rear shape of the rear wheel opening. Make it more round like the front. I am going to do this as it will make the body look more uniform. There is a lot of room to cut the rear. But I’m going to lake a different rear wing and see if that will make it look better. Claude suggested that if I shape the wing to conform to the body it might make it look better. I’ll try that before I cut her apart. Thank you Claude for the great ideas. I knew the design studio would come thru with great ideas.

Wow Bruce!

That engine looks like the real thing. It'll be awesome with the color scheme you're planning.

Thank you David.

Finally painted the chassis. Fitting the rear engine and trans. A lot of masking of the chassis tubes. They are going to be the same color as the wheels.

Nice build! Its kind of cool that the "original" fenders are left in there, as they probobly would do some weight reduction if removed. But it might be a rule thing as well that I dont know about.

Thank you Mattilacken. The rules are really strange but Porsche took advantage of them, BMW was very upset .

The rear view shot with the visible engine is awesome. Hope there's no plan to add a cover to hide that beast.

Hello Pierre, yes there is a cover but I will not be using it. Looks cool with the exposed engine.

Thank you guys. I compared the bodies of 5 of the same kit and 2 were bad. The others were perfect. But I took a lesson from my friend Mark about resin warp in mfh kits. Did what he said and my body now is fixed, Boiled water and put the parts in for only 30 seconds , took out the part and massaged the part to shape. With gloves on of course. I was a little worried about this. Had a problem with my resin cobra frame. Was a twist . Boiled water and did the same thing. Left the frame in a little longer because it was thick. Well now going to sort out the white metal mess.

Necroposting? Guilty as charged. What a great tip. I was afraid all we would get was that you used a technique somebody passed on to you, and that's all. Great explanation.
