Smoke Wagon Posted October 29, 2021 Posted October 29, 2021 Howdy. I’ve had Model T fever as of late, started on this yesterday afternoon. Modifications so far include filling in the blank space between the bucket and the bed and using balsa wood and squared toothpicks I made wooden bed rails. I’ll be making a mount on the driver side running board for the spare, and this will be my first attempt at making plugs and wires. Still not entirely set on color, I’m thinking a slate blue over black fenders and beige top.
Zippi Posted October 29, 2021 Posted October 29, 2021 (edited) That is a good looking model Riley. Nice work so far. I think your color choice will look great. Edited October 30, 2021 by Zippi
mchook Posted October 29, 2021 Posted October 29, 2021 I'm watching for sure, I love Model T Fords. I think black & blue are the perfect colors for a T. That's how my hands look after working on my father's and daughter's Ts.?
misterNNL Posted October 30, 2021 Posted October 30, 2021 I'm tuned in for sure. I started building these when the kit was first released in 1960 as a senior in high school. Since then I have built at least 15 of them in various versions so I'll be watching for certain.
Smoke Wagon Posted October 30, 2021 Author Posted October 30, 2021 Thanks for the kind words Bob! 1 hour ago, mchook said: That's how my hands look after working on my father's and daughter's Ts.? Hahaha ? that’s a good one Mark. Unforgiving machines, that’s for sure. Back in the 80’s or so my great grandpa bought a T as a kit car, and assembled it in his garage. @misterNNL This is a pretty good kit for its age. I gotta grab a Depot Hack and delivery van before they go out of stock again. I hope AMT reissues the tall T soon. 1
slusher Posted October 30, 2021 Posted October 30, 2021 Good looking kit. I really like early iron. I will be following along..
Kit Karson Posted October 31, 2021 Posted October 31, 2021 T fan here! Love the theme!! Stake Sides ROCK!!! -KK
Smoke Wagon Posted October 31, 2021 Author Posted October 31, 2021 @Kit Karson @hct728(Bob) Thanks guys. I agree, they go well with it. The bed rails will be stained here soon. I think the plan is to make it look stock, but like something that gets taken out to shows so they dressed it up a little. 1 1
Smoke Wagon Posted November 6, 2021 Author Posted November 6, 2021 Got the chassis rolling. I extended the driveline and rocked the rear axle back a little so the wheels will be centered in the rear fenders. 1
Chuckyg1 Posted November 6, 2021 Posted November 6, 2021 Never built one of these, I'll be tuning in. Nice detail on the wheels.
Zippi Posted November 7, 2021 Posted November 7, 2021 The rolling chassis is looking pretty good. The engine color looks nice.
Smoke Wagon Posted November 11, 2021 Author Posted November 11, 2021 Decided to go with dark green for the body. I used Tamiya TS-9, and Rustoleum gloss black for the fenders. Here’s a mock up of what I’ve got so far: I used a nice dark stain on the bed rails, and dry brushed black on them a little. When those dried I shot them with some Rustoleum semi-gloss clear.
Zippi Posted November 12, 2021 Posted November 12, 2021 Boy, that is looking up town Riley. The colors look fitting for the time period.
NOBLNG Posted November 12, 2021 Posted November 12, 2021 Looking really good there Riley! Great job on the wood grain for the spokes and bed rails.?
mchook Posted November 12, 2021 Posted November 12, 2021 WOW! everything looks great. Keep it up, I can't wait to see it finished.
Smoke Wagon Posted November 12, 2021 Author Posted November 12, 2021 Thanks guys! Your kind words are motivating. Was able to get some detailing done yesterday evening. There are 4 ejector pin marks in the bed, but there’s also some nice molded in wood detail, so it sort of balances itself out, lol.
Sledsel Posted November 12, 2021 Posted November 12, 2021 Those ejector pins are always in a crappy place. The build is looking great
Smoke Wagon Posted November 13, 2021 Author Posted November 13, 2021 Thanks Andy. And I agree. The worst is when there’s fat pin marks on chromed parts that you wanna keep chrome.
Zippi Posted November 13, 2021 Posted November 13, 2021 Looking good Riley. Care to tell us how you achived that wood grain look?
Smoke Wagon Posted November 13, 2021 Author Posted November 13, 2021 5 hours ago, Zippi said: Care to tell us how you achived that wood grain look? Most of that detail is molded into the plastic (that’s why I reluctantly chose not to remove the ejector pin marks). All I had to do was brush on a base coat of acrylic paint, then dry brush a few different shades of brown and tan on after the base layer dried.
Smoke Wagon Posted November 26, 2021 Author Posted November 26, 2021 Hadn’t had much time to sit down and work on this one so progress has been slow. Got the windshield glued in with no smears so that’s a win in my book. The chassis took a couple tries to get all four corners to glued onto the floorpan/fender unit but it was certainly doable. I got the spare tire painted and detailed, it’ll be hung onto a Y-shaped carrier mounted on the driver side running board.
slusher Posted November 28, 2021 Posted November 28, 2021 You have added lots of great detail, looking forward too the finished truck..
