I think for the look you are going for Claude's suggestion of a gloss white base for the polished aluminum would be the go. Do a couple test pieces to see what works best.

@peteski Do you have any recommendations regarding the OP.

With your vastly superior knowledge it would be good to see or hear a suggestion instead of the totally unnecessary off topic discussion.

Well EXCUSE ME Luke!  I'm so sorry that I chimed in on the problem with images not showing for some members. I know nothing about paint!  ;)

But seriously, any fine-grain metallic silver should work well.  The interior of a drag car is usually made from natural unpolished metal.  FIne-grained metallic paint creates a finish that looks like a metal surface. Try any of the Alclad II aluminum paints. I don't think any glossy undercoat is needed. I think Tru-Color aluminum paint would also work.  If the finish is too bright or shiny, coat it with flat or satin clear.

Does that sugestion meet with your approval Luke?

Thanks for the suggestions.  I'll test the gloss white under Alclad Chrome and Polished Aluminum.  I also have Alclad White Aluminum that doesn't require a glossy base coat that I'll test.

I'm going to do some tests with the gloss white and Alclad Chrome and Polished Aluminum as well as Alclad White Aluminum that doesn't require a base coat.

Please share the results from the testing, will be interesting to see the difference in the surface finish.

I will.  I'll try this week to do some testing.

Ditto. My hoard of buffing metalizers isn't going to last forever, and everyone who's been relying on them over the years will need well-tested and predictable alternatives.

I know I've seen you mention it, before--there's always the old technique of rubbing metal powders into a base coat. I think experimentation with that method over different sheens and colors of base coats could provide some interesting and useful results. I've really only tried it, once, on bare plastic, over brushed-on regular clear varnish. For little to no effort, the results were pleasing. I imagine that given a variety of powders and base coats, the palette could be pretty extensive.

Yup, I'd kinda forgotten about the magic powders.

Here's one over black and white bases:

You'd be hard pressed to beat that finish. That stuff looks great!

Agreed...but while we're at it, here's a vid from 2012 comparing Alclad 2 vs Mr Super Metallic vs Kosutte Ginsan vs MGM Magic Powder

I sprayed some spoons.  The 2 spoons on the left are sprayed with Green Stuff World Chrome Metal over Testors Gloss White Enamel.  The spoon on the right is sprayed with Alclad ALC 106 White Aluminum.

The gloss white enamel does make the chrome look more like polished aluminum.  The Alclad White Aluminum is good for unpolished raw sheet metal.  I usually use Alclad ALC 101 Aluminum but it's more of a grayish aluminum.  The White Aluminum is brighter.

I've tried Alclad ALC 105 Polished Aluminum but the Green Stuff World Chrome Metal over the gloss white looks better and is more forgiving when spraying.

AK's Extreme Metal Duraluminum should be good as well. I know it matches fairly well for airplane aluminum skin and it's not fussy to put on. I believe it's enamel based and more durable than Alclad. Check it out, there are a couple of you tube reviews out there testing the Extreme metal paints.

The Green Stuff World Chrome is very nice and for me it seems to be a bit more forgiving than Alclad when spraying.  It still doesn't look like real chrome but more like polished aluminum.
