I decided it was time to pull out the Revell 51 Henry J Gasser I bought late last year.  I've gotten a lot of the work done already since I've been away from the forum for a while.  The front clip consisted of 7 pieces and was not an easy task to get lined up.  Getting the rear end squared up was a chore to say the least.  With the rear end glued in place and looking good it was time to get the doors and flip hood lined up.  Next I'll need to get that doors and flip hood aligned.  I did a little mockup to make sure the rear tires are fitting good and I like what I see.

Nice start, I've got this same kit I plan on building sometime soon.

Thanks Scott.   It's a head scratcher for sure but fun.

I've often read that this was a rather difficult kit to build but it seems that you have things under control so far.  You're off to a great start Bob! ?

Thanks man.  It's got me to second guessing myself.  I'm getting there though.

After lunch today it was around 52° with 28% humidity so I thought I would try and get some paint on the Henry J.  Unfortunately it was a little to windy and it just wasn't working out well.  Lot of trash in the paint and the paint finish looks chunky.  Guess I should have known better but just couldn't wait.  On a good note I did get the interior finished.

You're going thru a lot more trouble than I did on that front clip. I see you haven't attached the shocks yet. The rears were way too long and the fronts don't have much of any mounting points.

I look forward to your continued build.

Thanks Tony.  Yup....shock are installed.  See pics above.  My rear shocks set the differential in the correct location.  You are correct about the front shocks, not much of an area to attach them but they did go on.

I think this morning I'm going to try to lightly color sand the finish with some 1000 grit.  I have never color sanded before so I have a question.  If I color sand to get out some of the trash and rough spots, will I need to repaint the body???  Or, after a light sanding can I hit it with the clear coat.  Will the finish look ok with a light sanding and clear coat ???  Thanks for any input fellows.

You did a great job in getting that front end all squared away. I remember building this kit years ago and that was a pain. Someone, I can't recall who cast a one piece front end for this car.

Thanks Ray.  I didn't think the front end was all that bad.  The back is what got me to scratching my head.

Well....after doing a little mock-up I have decided to go with the blown engine out of the Revell 29 Roadster.  Had to cut out the transmission cross member but it's looking pretty good.  The headers do touch the floor pan but the chassis and floor pan mate up just fine.  The stock drive shaft even fits perfect.

Engine looks great... Actually, it looks really cool with the body sanded and the primer spots showing.

Thanks Buddy.  Yeah it does look like a wore out Gasser but I prefer some paint I think.

Sorry I didnt reply earlier, If you only have wet and dry sand paper 2000 would have been the go, 1000 is a bit too coarse will leave scratch's and more chance of burning through.

Polishing cloth grits would be best thing to use when colour wet sanding, go over the whole thing with 4000-8000 and give it a wash, then give it another gradual build up to a wet coat.

Shouldnt need clear over Tamiya TS solid colour's if you apply them just right.

Thanks for all the info Luke.  I really need to work on my painting skills as I have yet to produce a quality looking paint job in my eyes.
