If there is another topic please move moderators.   Is it me but isn’t time for the 72 GMC stepside to be reissued?

I wish they would change it to a short wheel base. I'll still buy on if they do reissue, just getting old and lazy is all.

Wasn't it sacrificed by using parts of it, cobbling together this kit?

The Racer's Wedge and Coca-Cola branded '72 Chevy pickups out now are based on the GMC.  So the GMC won't be back unless Round 2 commits to recreating it.

Not Mark, but I think so.

The History on these kits is pretty tangled, and I am not sure anybody knows the whole story anymore. I wish they could find the Big Block from the GMC Kit with the Tri-Power.

There used to be two trucks, now there is one that is made up of parts from the two (mainly the ex-GMC) combined with some new tooling.  Generally, when things like that are done, they aren't done with the idea of converting back to a previous version.  For Round 2 to even consider issuing the now-existing Chevy as a short stepside, they'd have to see if any of the old parts (like the stepside bed) even still exist.  If not, they'd have to retool them.

As a hobby we would be best served if someone tooled up new versions of these trucks, like Moebius did for the Fords. That way we could have long beds, short beds 2wd & 4wd, maybe even a Suburban. Photo etch badges would allow them to use the same body for a Chevy and GMC versions. As hot as those trucks are in the 1:1 world are, surprised no one has taken the plunge to offer them in scale.

It is swb. GMC always were. Chevy stepside was Lwb.

The only stepside I can recall is the Chevrolet LWB and in a half ton I don't recall ever seeing but one of those on the street.

Don’t know for sure, Mark prob does.
This issue was about same time. 80CFDA4D-B667-4918-AD7E-CD471FB35E91.jpeg.65f6ce4f8a7c31d2c708293cbfb8571c.jpeg

If this is what they're going to offer I better start laying aside a little extra cash now.

There's another thread on this topic that explains exactly what parts went where. We even compared parts from all 3 kits, the AMT GMC, MPC '72 Chevy stepside and the "newer tool"  AMT '72 Chevy longbox.

Seems most of the newer tool is in fact the AMT GMC in spite of that would have been a lot easier to make the exact same kit by just adding the new box to the MPC Chevy and keeping the GMC as it was.

I'm surprised Casey hasn't put up a link to that thread yet.

So, Carl and all those others yearning for a rerelease of the GMC stepside, Sorry but it can't happen now short of a lot of new tooling. And if they did that, they might as well go all out and do a whole new kit.

The GMC was first issued as a LWB fleetside bed. It's a rare one and expensive when you do find one. It's the one AMT turned into the Chevy.

Yeah. I just was referring to stepside. I’ve got a couple Sierra Grande’s in pile. Neat trucks. Like 71-2 GMC better than same yr Chevy.
Wish someone would restore these.
I looked for thread about these from ages ago, no luck yet.

My biggest pet peeve is the grill, we did not get the grill shown in the photo below, the sides were never raked  back at the bottom as the '68-'72's were. The grill used in the kits are closer to the one year only '67 grill minus the letters in center of grill.

It looks like it's raked back at the bottom to me.

I wonder how the grille from the Jimmy would fit the pickup? It has separate headlight lenses.

First photo '67, second photo '72.  There was a chrome molding trim surrounding the grill added for '68 thru '72. Notice how trim lines up with edge of bumper.  If Modelhaus was still around, I'm sure they would have offered the correct grill PLATED to their product offerings by now.

This is the body style I'm talking about. Round 2 brings this kit to market I'll need to buy a few of these.

I see what you're talking about there Tommy. Looks like one needs to cut the trim away from the grille, angle the fenders back a little more and add the trim back at the angle it needs to be. I'm going to check the Jimmy grille to see what it looks like.

You can still snag these at a decent price on ebay. I've also seen the price skyrocket.

Not sure about the Jimmy grille but I do have a grille here from a '70 Blazer. It's a bit too wide to fit the pickup cabs. Maybe 1/16" maybe a touch more. I'm thinking since the Jimmy and Blazer kits use the same bodys it would be the same for the GMC grille.
