1959scudetto Posted March 27, 2022 Posted March 27, 2022 (edited) One of the highlights of Group C racing, I highly recommend this kit to anyone who wants a "quickbuilder" - a simple curbside kit with no engine or suspension detail at all (just like the average resin models), but with a perfectly proportioned body and awesome decals: I did like the instructions told me - just painted the body racing white (with auto laquers from the can) - the purple and orange colors are all decals: they snug down like a dream even on the compound curves without wrinkles or bubbles - NO decal solution necessary. I only had to paint the green parts with a brush and a bit touch up on 2 or 3 tiny spots with purple (and of course, the headlight surroundings). Built in 1989, photos made just now. Gramps46 Posted March 27, 2022 Posted March 27, 2022 Excellent builds, both of them. You have a PM. 1
Rich Chernosky Posted March 27, 2022 Posted March 27, 2022 Helmut..that is one tough livery to get right. I had to paint the purple on my Tamiya kit. But you got this one. Both builds look great. 1
iBorg Posted March 27, 2022 Posted March 27, 2022 I appreciate the way you describe it "just like a good resin." I'll admit the decals scare me, but this is a great display piece. 1
Silver Foxx Posted March 27, 2022 Posted March 27, 2022 These are both really nice builds , well done . 1
TonyK Posted March 29, 2022 Posted March 29, 2022 Great cars and great looking models depicting them. 1
1959scudetto Posted March 31, 2022 Author Posted March 31, 2022 (edited) Thank you all fellows; in my opinion, Group C racers were the last real good-looking sportsracers with very few exceptions, f.ex. the 2003 Le Mans winning Bentley Speed 8 Edited April 2, 2022 by 1959scudetto
Dave B Posted April 1, 2022 Posted April 1, 2022 Great builds Helmut, tks for sharing. I fear my Tamiya version will never look that good. Dave B
Paul Waymouth Posted April 20, 2022 Posted April 20, 2022 Love that Jag, I’ve read horror reports of difficult decals but you make it sound easy, I’ll hunt one down and give it a go. Yours looks amazing!
Pierre Rivard Posted April 21, 2022 Posted April 21, 2022 Beautiful race car and your representation looks so lifelike. I never purchased a Hasegawa kit. How does it compare to Tamiya or Fujimi?

Yours looks amazing! Thanks, Paul - I did not have any problems with the decals, but I built the kit when it was new. I don't know how the decals behave more than 30 years later (if you pick up an original issue). The only weakness is : the yellow stripes are not really opaque - you can see that on the right front fender between headlight bezel and wheel well: I goofed a little bit, and so the purple shines through - also I misplaced the horizontal stripe on the nose a little bit - is is not exactly centered - everything should have been put about 1 mm to the left side, then the longitudinal stripes on the nose section also would have been correctly positioned.

As I said in the beginning of this topic: a very simple curbside kit without any engine or suspension detail, but with good proportions and excellent decals. Building is very easy, though. On the other side, there are some Hasegawa rally car kits that are delicately molded and are more challenging than their Tamiya counterparts.
happy grumpy Posted April 26, 2022 Posted April 26, 2022 Really beautiful builds, Just the thought of all these decals freaks me out. ?
