Zippi Posted April 15, 2022 Posted April 15, 2022 I built this kit some time back and didn't like how it turned out so I've pulled it about and started over. This time around it's going to be a Dually Shop Truck. I've painted the body with Rust-Oleum Flat Red Primer. Once that has dried I'll shoot it with some Rust-Oleum Satin Hunt Club Green. After it's nice an dry I'll wet sand spots to bring out the Flat Red Primer to look like and old worn out faded paint job. The rear of the truck has been modified to except the dual wheels. I did a little mockup before I shot the Flat Red Primer and I think it's looking pretty good so far. 3
Zippi Posted April 15, 2022 Author Posted April 15, 2022 I had an old AMT 34 Ford truck kit that I build and I still had the hook and chain boom for the wrecker version that I'll be using on this Shop Truck. Should look pretty kewl. 1
89AKurt Posted April 15, 2022 Posted April 15, 2022 One of my favorite subjects and kits. I've had the fantasy of building a duelly club cab of this kit. Look forward to seeing this progress.

espo Posted April 16, 2022 Posted April 16, 2022 I like the looks of the dually rear. Did you have to widen the rear fenders to cover the tires?

I did not have to widen the rear fenders. I did have to modify the frame to accommodate the inner rear wheels. 1
Nosferatu Posted April 16, 2022 Posted April 16, 2022 Great idea! I like the stance. You are inspiring me to pull out my '50 Chevy pickup! 1

Zippi Posted April 22, 2022 Author Posted April 22, 2022 I got the green sprayed on the body and started the weathering process. I think it's working out pretty good so far. 2
NOBLNG Posted April 22, 2022 Posted April 22, 2022 That weathering looks really good to me Bob! And some nice mods you’re doing to it. It reminds me of when I was a kid watching the local garages old ‘50-something Merc tow truck pulling out a semi that had gotten wedged up against a hydro pole.? It had a slightly extended front bumper with an old tractor tire carcass bolted on for pushing duty. Behind the bumper were a few large rocks to help keep the front end down when pulling.? If I recall the front wheels were off the ground before he got it moving.? 1

Yeah, my father in-laws garage didn't have a shop truck but there was one down the street that I remember and I'm trying to fashion this one after it.

Chariots of Fire Posted April 25, 2022 Posted April 25, 2022 Not exactly the same but I used that same cab to build this dualie a few years ago. Made it an extended cab version as well.

Butter 1 Posted April 26, 2022 Posted April 26, 2022 Nice weathering. Looks very realistic and in scale.
ksnow Posted April 28, 2022 Posted April 28, 2022 I love where you are taking this build. The dually rear end really fills up those flares. And satin green paint always looks good weathered.

slusher Posted April 29, 2022 Posted April 29, 2022 I like your weathering, sun and age getting the best of the paint."

flamepainter Posted April 29, 2022 Posted April 29, 2022 That is a really great job on the weathering. I agree that the green with red primer underneath looks very realistic. Will be following this build, it's quite interesting. Jim
