64SS350 Posted August 27, 2023 Author Posted August 27, 2023 Wanted to try this, so I made a couple extras for the interior. 3
64SS350 Posted September 15, 2023 Author Posted September 15, 2023 Finally! The coilovers are done! 2
Bills72sj Posted September 15, 2023 Posted September 15, 2023 Nice work with the seatbelts and buckles.
AZPartsLocators Posted September 23, 2023 Posted September 23, 2023 It has always bothered me no one makes an accurate steering wheel for these. I would think someone would have by now. Awesome build! Wish I was at this level!

Chariots of Fire Posted September 23, 2023 Posted September 23, 2023 Got a question. Does the center seat fold to allow entry to the back seat?
64SS350 Posted September 23, 2023 Author Posted September 23, 2023 Thanks for the encouraging remarks! If you look at the first bench seat, there is a center split. I added it after the seat was made. And yes it should be "1/3" or "1/4" split, but I wasn't rebuilding the seat.

I've been watching your project and really like where you're going with this. Can't wait to see it come together. Just a hint for your coil-over springs, next time try wrapping the wire in the threads of an appropriate size bolt. That way you can "unscrew" the spring and the coils will all be evenly spaced.

But the wire I had and what I could find is aluminum, so holding the shape is challenging. 1
64SS350 Posted November 14, 2023 Author Posted November 14, 2023 (edited) Painted the body a couple weeks ago, spray can Model Master lacquer. I now the body work wouldn't be perfect, just ready for it to be painted. After I used MCW clear, a couple spots showed up that appeared to "raise". I sealed all the mudded areas with super thin CA and final sanded, plus Duplicator primer. It's only on the hood and the roof joint, pondering to fix or let go.(and no...I don't drink Rockstar..lol) Edited November 14, 2023 by 64SS350 2
NOBLNG Posted November 15, 2023 Posted November 15, 2023 I hate it when that happens. Paint is always the part that intimidates me the most. I can’t see anything wrong with the roof in the pics. Shame about the hood, the color looks great on it though. 1
64SS350 Posted November 15, 2023 Author Posted November 15, 2023 The roof problem is in the middle, at the joint. Hard to see in pics, but stands out to the naked eye. I even blocked that roof several times. I'm thinking of buying a printed roof rack for it anyway. I too like the color, but heavy on the metallics.
64SS350 Posted November 17, 2023 Author Posted November 17, 2023 (edited) Hood is in the brake fluid, polished the body in the meantime, which actually removed the lines that I previously mentioned on the roof! Edited November 17, 2023 by 64SS350 3
64SS350 Posted December 3, 2023 Author Posted December 3, 2023 Some progress... added a bit of BMF, a tailgate latch, key locks, rear hatch handle. Decided to open the grill... progress so far. Playing with the stock wheels from the Blazer kit, thinned the back to remove the center, lots of extra styrene in there. Cut loose, cleaned up to make id round, glued pcs to sheet styrene and sanded the od. Wheel on the left is the refurbished one. These are deep and look great in larger tires.... (future projects). Also discovered in research...the taillights and bu lights are inverted. 2
NOBLNG Posted December 4, 2023 Posted December 4, 2023 ‘That body is looking really nice Karl!? The biggest problem with those kit wheels are that the fronts are 6 lug 4wd rims, and the rears are 5 lug 2wd rims.? 2
64SS350 Posted December 4, 2023 Author Posted December 4, 2023 Wow.... didn't catch that on the rims... thanks! Have to come up with hubcaps I guess. Thanks for the compliments and for following!
Modlbldr Posted December 4, 2023 Posted December 4, 2023 Man, I like what you have done and glad to see you have gotten this far on it. The paint color is perfect for it. I am currently building a 72 Suburban on here but I went a different route by using the 72 Pickup. I'm hoping it will work. I had to use it as it is for a common kit build-off. After seeing that your starting point was the Blazer I am curious if the height of the sides of the lazer are taller than the sides of the pickup bed. I ask because I had to add a square styrene rod the length of the bed in order to match the height of the cab. I like your idea of using the Blazer roofs. I am using flat sheet for mine but I am also including a sliding canvas roof so I won't have to worry too much about curves. Later-
64SS350 Posted December 4, 2023 Author Posted December 4, 2023 Looking good! The Blazer needed a filler strip also. Using the pu is good, since the wheelbases are the same, less side bodywork also. The Blazer gave me roofs, but I had to work them. They are flat and textured. Made a block to heat and shape in an arch. I also overestimated the springs, this will be a tall one when the time comes for tires! 1
64SS350 Posted January 1, 2024 Author Posted January 1, 2024 Sooo, I got tired of trying to make the grill slots look even, and changed to this style. Working on windows also, sides are in, front and rear are next. Hood is ready for clear.
TheBEAUMONTGURU Posted January 1, 2024 Posted January 1, 2024 super cool scratch building! im loving this thread!
64SS350 Posted January 3, 2024 Author Posted January 3, 2024 All windows are in, as well as interior tub. Back hatch is not glued shut, but tight enough fit I don't want to try to open it. Going to test fit the chassis next and choose tires. I think this is going to end up taller than I expected or wanted. Engine bay is going to have a mold made of it before I slightly modify one to accommodate the headers. 1
dino246gt Posted January 4, 2024 Posted January 4, 2024 Wow, now that's looking pretty great! Beautiful work on that ambitious project, almost finished too, WOW!!!
Oldriginal86 Posted January 6, 2024 Posted January 6, 2024 She’s going to be a tall girl. Looks good.
