53gmc Posted January 24, 2023 Posted January 24, 2023 (edited) Ive got a dumb question about the windshield and cant find a clear answer. I assume the headlight rule is to prevent broken glass from rocks or whatever from getting all over the beach. Would one need to remove the windshield aswell? Ive gone through a ton of pictures and it seems almost the roadster style vehicles have chopped down pillars or no windshield at all. But all the coupe and sedan styles still have theirs? I got the body painted but not assembled so now would be my chance to chop it if needed Edited January 24, 2023 by 53gmc

Bernard Kron Posted January 25, 2023 Posted January 25, 2023 The TROG Flabob Drags Sta-Lube Special is now done! Below are a couple of photos showing the final details. I’ll post final presentation pictures tomorrow. Thanx to all who followed along, B. 3
Dave Darby Posted January 25, 2023 Posted January 25, 2023 11 hours ago, Mr. Metallic said: Just an FYI for you and anyone else, the bodies in this kit drop on the AMT 29 Ford roadster fender unit. The helpful thing here is that that kit has a separate frame rather than being molded to the fender unit like this kit. Thanks @Dave Darby for sharing that tip awhile back. Haven't used it myself yet, but thought others in this thread might like to know it too. That is true with one caveat. You have to cut away the rumble seat floor from the roadster fender unit. This works great for the Woody and the Roadster Pickup. For the sedan, you'll also need to trim the inner portions of the rear fenders to match that of the old ex-MPC units to all the body and interior tub to clear. Here's a Woody body on the Roadster fenders. Using these also allows you to use the much nicer Roadster hood, radiator shell and headlights. I really need to finish this thing! 1
Mr. Metallic Posted January 25, 2023 Posted January 25, 2023 Possibly formulating a plan. I just got these, they are called out as 1932 Ford wheels. So, am I within the rules to use these? they're not Model A, but I'm unsure why they are against wire wheels at all. I know they aren't the best for drag applications because they can't take the torque, but in the late 40's/early 50's (which is where I may be headed with my build) they were probably still ok? 1

His work is mind-blowing, expensive but wow. The 1st two images was taken from 2019 when the drags were at Santa Barbara, the last one was TRoG on the east coast 2018. Found online. So I'd say, sure. 1

Now I feel better. I wonder why they call out Model A wheels specifically. I get the wooden T wheels, but what is so different about the A wheels that they are not allowed? Anyway, I'm not ready to jump in with both feet yet, but I'm formulating a plan. Plus, i work better on a tight deadline ? I ordered these 2 months ago, but they just landed on my bench so I thought I'd ask. And you ain't kidding, their stuff is not cheap, but I bought them during the Black Friday sale, so I saved a little ?

It's my plan to do a few more for the Flabob Community Build but it's probably time to take a break from the TROGness for a bit, LOL. I must admit, though, that .doing these is Big Fun...

I hope to have something to show soon with my 29 4-banger myself and have at least one more planned for this also. Thanks again everyone. Charles 1

tim boyd Posted January 31, 2023 Posted January 31, 2023 For any of you still pondering what to build, one idea would be to use the Henderson/Indian Ace four cylinder motorcycle found in the recent Round 2 reissue of the old MPC 1932 Chrysler Roadster kit. Up until this reissue, your only way to build this one would have been either Norm's (R&M of Md. Co.) resin rebop, or else parts from the original MPC kit released in 1966 (only this release had the motorcycle parts, no other reissues until the recent Round 2 action). Era-correct bikes have been a big part of the TROG events since the beginning, and could fit right in visually with all the great work being done in this build thread. Mine was a quicky restoration of a gluebomb build from that original 1966 kit, with just paint detailing, a number roundel, and a "Bardahl" decal on the tank. But just imagine what you could do with some real detailing, starting with more accurate spoked wheels... Just an idea....TIM 5

My other photos seem to be posting OK but not these photos of my 2017 TROG build. . I posted a picture of this car way back on page 2 or 3, I think. but it won't show right now. Apparently I can post pics directly to MCM, which I don't normally do, so I'll give it a try right now... (it worked, LOL) Edited February 1, 2023 by Bernard Kron 1

That sounds like great fun....can you imagine in 1/1 scale...the sound of that Chrysler straight-8 unmuffled, the sand being kicked up, the car either rockting off the line or...digging itself deep into the sand (due to the wieght of the car)....great imagery in any context. Hope you decide to go ahead with this, Seth...TB 1
