TransAmMike Posted November 11, 2022 Posted November 11, 2022 Awesome (to me at least) unlikely formation 2
Ace-Garageguy Posted November 11, 2022 Posted November 11, 2022 Wow. Just plain wow. I swear, if I had my life to do over, I'd try to be an A-10 driver. Wonderful photos, and those big 'ol B-1s sure are pretty.

Mike 1017 Posted November 12, 2022 Posted November 12, 2022 My wife and I went to South Dakota, and we visited the Ellsworth Air Force Base the home of the B1 and the outdoor and indoor museums. We had the privilege of seeing a B1 coming low and fast to land. Another taking off fast and high. We also went to a Minute Man Missel silo. Mike

Me too...but much as I love the P-51, I'd opt to fly a P-47, the original "Thunderbolt" if I could go back... Like its namesake A-10, it could take a lot of punishment and get its pilot home, and was an effective close-air-support platform. Edited November 12, 2022 by Ace-Garageguy 1
TransAmMike Posted November 12, 2022 Author Posted November 12, 2022 OMG....tragedy todays at Dallas Airshow. Bell P-63 Kingcobra collides with B-17 killing all. Just sickening. God speed to those involved.

TonyK Posted November 12, 2022 Posted November 12, 2022 Just read this a few minutes ago. Sickening to think of the lives lost doing something they love and for the people having to witness such a thing. B-17 is my favorite airplane and there aren't many around anymore, right?

I don't have a photo of the B-17 Texas Raiders on my computer, but I saw it and the P-63 at the Sun N Fun Airshow a couple years ago. Here's the P-63

I saw several videos and won't watch them again. Its just sickening. Like you Tony the B-17 is my favorite WWII airplane also.
SSNJim Posted November 12, 2022 Posted November 12, 2022 Apparently, the B-17 was Texas Raiders, a B-17G owned by the Commemorative Air Force.

Here's the P-63 It wasn't that aircraft; it was their other Kingcobra - the sole surviving P-63F: https://warbirdsnews.com/warbird-restorations/caf-bell-p-63f-kingcobra-re-emerges-in-fresh-livery.html

I didn't know they had another P-63. I don't keep up with CAF stuff like I used to.
ChrisBcritter Posted November 13, 2022 Posted November 13, 2022 (edited) Texas Raiders as I saw it at Oshkosh in 1977, shortly before it was fully restored to combat configuration: Edited November 13, 2022 by ChrisBcritter 2
