stavanzer Posted November 22, 2022 Posted November 22, 2022 Rumor has it that this is coming out. Any Details on what will be in the Kit, and which Quarter it will be coming out?
mikemodeler Posted November 22, 2022 Posted November 22, 2022 (edited) The Bushwhacker Jeep is the same as this kit- different decals. Maybe they will dig out some old stuff to add to it, will be interesting to see what they do as they have done both straight re-issues and added extras in kits as of late. This kit has been re-issued many times and it hasn't changed much over the years. The original issue back in the MPC days had it with a half cab, snow plow and V-6 engine. Since then it has had the old Hurricane 4 cyl engine. Edited November 22, 2022 by mikemodeler 1
CapSat 6 Posted November 23, 2022 Posted November 23, 2022 Which Bushwhacker? The first army-style Jeep has been offered several times recently (as the Hogan’s Heroes and Godzilla Jeeps). They more or less came with the same stuff as the Bushwhacker, except for the big tires. The 2nd style kit is basically their CJ-5 (which was basically their annual kit in the late ‘60’s and then their Daisy Duke kit), which hasn’t been out in awhile. I would rather see this one return, as they haven’t been out in awhile.
Mike C. Posted November 23, 2022 Posted November 23, 2022 I can remember build a variation of this early MPC Jeep model as a kid. I was obsessed with the early model early on.
keyser Posted November 23, 2022 Posted November 23, 2022 (edited) Early WW2/50mm mount Jeeps with flat front fenders are CJ2-A iirc. Only had 4, and had Swamp Buggy fairing, bar, grille once. Also had Surrey top in Hogans issue x2 iirc, which was in an Elvis movie too. The later CJ5 had V6 early on, later 4. Had snowplow x1, single cab x2, full up top in clear most issues. One issue had tagalong trailer Korean War issue. Had rear mount engine in an odd issue around ‘71, it had single cab too. I think it was a “cammer” though not a good one. mikemodeler Posted November 23, 2022 Posted November 23, 2022 (edited) That Bottoms Up version would be great to see reissued, forgot about that one. I have two of these in the WIP section of my work bench, with three more in the stash. Edited November 23, 2022 by mikemodeler 1
keyser Posted November 23, 2022 Posted November 23, 2022 Cool. I’m a completionist with buying all the variants that matter. Building evidently eludes my completionist. Great kit. Better with Modelhaus tires.
Hondamatic Posted November 29, 2022 Posted November 29, 2022 I didnt wanna pay for a "bottoms up" so I made my own from a daisy kit 3 1
keyser Posted November 29, 2022 Posted November 29, 2022 Fun. Wheelie wheel on drive case funny, necessary. Driveshaft angle concerning. Sudden Death. I lol’d. 1 1
JS23U Posted November 30, 2022 Posted November 30, 2022 I have a mint unbuilt Universal Dune Buggy. It is a very nice kit, with a lot of options like the mentioned snow plow, half cab and the likes. I wish Round 2 would find and include these items in future issues. 3
Carmak Posted December 22, 2022 Posted December 22, 2022 Just got this guy a couple weeks ago. I assume it's the Bottoms Up kit because of the cab and decals. Did any other issue have the cab?
stavanzer Posted December 22, 2022 Author Posted December 22, 2022 The Universal Dune Buggy (#405-200) Has the Half Cab parts also. https://public.fotki.com/drasticplasticsmcc/mkiba-build-under-c/mpc-instructions/monster-trucks-pull/sand/mpc-universal-dune-/?view=roll#7

Daddyfink Posted December 22, 2022 Posted December 22, 2022 Hey, Round 2, since you are on a Postal kick lately...... And yes, I find it odd that it is a NASA photo!
stavanzer Posted December 22, 2022 Author Posted December 22, 2022 Not much (if anything) in common with other Jeeps. Notice it does not even have the Trademark Jeep Seven Slot grille.

One of the resin casters in Detroit offered this as a kit a while back. Not sure if it is still available. 1

OK, I know we're side tracking a little bit, but if you want a postal Jeep, there is a very nice diecast one that I found at CVS. I think the brand is Kinsmart? All lenses are clear and it has sliding doors. Steel wheels are weird-looking 4-lugs, but its easy enough to swap some parts box 5-lugs onto it. Main demerit is that it is 1:26, but I think I paid $7.99 for mine, so can't complain too much. My store only had undecorated versions (no postal markings). I got plain white, and they also had solid black and red. But Google searching shows that there are versions available with the USPS graphics. Edited December 23, 2022 by Robberbaron 1
Tom Geiger Posted December 23, 2022 Posted December 23, 2022 I have the resin postal Jeep. It’s very nice full detail with the straight six. Jeff didn’t have any of the decals left so I will grab a few postal Pintos. And to get back on track.. I bought a junker bag with remnants of several Jeeps at a show. I managed to pull two models out of it. Green one has a V8 and became 2WD. I didn’t have a hood, glass or tailgate so second one became a junker. Okay, two and a half Jeeps from the bag! And the rest of that one… 1

Looks like I will have to hunt around for it a bit. Thanks for the info!
Plowboy Posted December 25, 2022 Posted December 25, 2022 With what Round2 has been doing with old kits lately, I'd like to see them return the Commando to the Jeepster. All they would have to do is the body and interior panels. Big bonus for the full hard top.

Olson Bros. did do the early conversion pieces you mentioned but have discontinued them. I did get one of their bodies, need to get it done.

But, by the time you buy the kit and the trans kit, you could almost buy an original. IIRC, the trans kit didn’t come with the splash guard or rounded bumpers and the full top was a separate price. 1
