Mark Posted December 14, 2022 Posted December 14, 2022 A lot of people bring up comparisons between the price now and the price back then. How much are they earning per hour versus back then? 2
Joe Nunes Posted December 14, 2022 Posted December 14, 2022 Well, while the latest Flexible Flyer comments regarding my initial post are interesting in themselves, and, yes, I am fully aware of the monitory comparison of price points regarding today's economic environment, my initial post was a direct reflection on what "shocked" ME at a given point in time and place. The thread title What Shocked You Today was answered by my comment and whether you agree with my post is your own business. Now, I suppose you won't like this post either, however, if you will get along with your business gentlemen, I'll get on with enjoying the forum and modeling. ? Joe
Snake45 Posted December 14, 2022 Posted December 14, 2022 Joe, I meant no offense. You post just got me curious about the price then and now. I apologize if I upset you. I certainly didn't mean to. 1 1
Joe Nunes Posted December 14, 2022 Posted December 14, 2022 Richard, all is good and your post is appreciated. A Happy Holiday Season to you and your family, and I look forward to seeing your next modeling project that you share with us here on the forum. Joe 1

Joe Ok, I'll play here: I was shocked that you were shocked about the apparently high price of the Flexible Flyer sled. Now we are on the same page. All is well - no hard feelings. 1

espo Posted December 16, 2022 Posted December 16, 2022 We all seem to age like fruit. We start off in life looking like a Plum and later in life we start looking like a Prune. You have to be brave to get old. 2

Mike C. Posted December 18, 2022 Posted December 18, 2022 Technically it was yesterday but that Vikings comeback from 33 -0 against the Colts. I gave up on that game before halftime.

ranma Posted December 18, 2022 Posted December 18, 2022 What shocked me happened on December 15th and got emailed about on the 16th. I lost the best friend I ever had in my life. His shop caught fire, and while he did get out he was badly burned over 70% of his body. Not only his shop is gone along with a few classic cars, But he is as well. We may have never met in person, but we started our friendship through the Model cars forum. Since 2013 we had been trading, emailing almost daily , and getting each other gifts. He lived in Oliver B.C. Canada, and I'm here in Ohio. Being both of us worked with a fixed income it was cheaper for me to get kit's he wanted and ship them to him than if he were to buy then at a hobby shop there in his area. Models that cost me less than $20.00 from HL would have cost him nearly $45-50.00! I'll miss him dearly!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Snake45 Posted December 18, 2022 Posted December 18, 2022 Sorry to hear of the loss of your friend, Ranma.

I sent him the '59 Lincoln promo that I had found which likely was destroyed in the fire. I managed to fix the '66 Buick wildcat, and sent him photo's of just 2 days before the fire. His last email was What Damage in referance to the Buick. That and the fact he loved the color choice ,and the use of white wall tires. Edited December 20, 2022 by ranma

Ace-Garageguy Posted December 23, 2022 Posted December 23, 2022 I'm always kinda shocked and mystified that more people aren't shocked and mystified by a lot of what's going on in the world today, but looking the other way and pretending everything's OK seems to be the mainstream approach to life. I don't know if it's apathy, willful ignorance, or just abject stupidity on a global scale. 1

espo Posted December 25, 2022 Posted December 25, 2022 I'm afraid most of the things that shock me in life today aren't open for discussion here. Not a bad idea since it avoids a lot of food fights. 2 1
NYLIBUD Posted December 27, 2022 Posted December 27, 2022 Sorry Ranma for the lose of your friend. It really sucks losing friends and love ones,so suddenly.Did you know how old he was,or what started the fire?Just curious.
ranma Posted December 27, 2022 Posted December 27, 2022 (edited) 11 hours ago, NYLIBUD said: you know how old he was,or what started the fire? Impcom (Gary Cook) was 71. As for what started the fire is speculation as the news report said he was working on a car which backfired caught fire then caught fire. Per Tina his wife the fire started, and he tried to fight the fire to save his things, but the fire caught him instead. Years ago before our friendship started his home burned down which he lost his collection of models. So I'd say he was trying to stop the fire from doing the same thing, plus he had a couple of classic cars in the building such as his '59 Impala convertible. He had a real love for those '59 Chevrolets. Should have not tried to fight the fire, but then rational thinking sometimes don't kick in, and people think they can save their stuff. Still its sad that it happened to him, and as I said he was a true friend. As you can see this is a photo of himself with the Transtar 4070 a that I sent him as a gift. The look on his face say's it all about how thrilled he was to get it. For him to buy one there would have cost him over $100.00. Even with shipping added it cost me less than $70.00 to buy and ship to him. Edited December 27, 2022 by ranma
NYLIBUD Posted December 27, 2022 Posted December 27, 2022 Yea,again, that sucks.People don’t realize sometimes how fast a fire can spread.Like I said, he was probably trying to put it out to save the building and his things.I almost got burned once, when a fire started in an apartment i was living in.And this fire, although i was able to put it out before it got bad, could’ve been really bad..And like an idiot i was smoking in bed started to nod off,and i dropped the cigarette on the floor.A small fire started, but thank God i quickly woke up and saw the carpet right next to the bed on fire.I jumped up and smothered it.I couldn’t believe how stupid i was to do something like that.I mean not only could i have burned the house down,i could’ve died,as well as my girlfriend sleeping in the bed next to me.Since that night,i never smoked in bed, and in fact i never smoked indoors again.Yea people don’t realize how fast a fire can spread, before it’s to late.Look what happened to Jay Leno.Anyway, sorry again for your loss..
stavanzer Posted December 29, 2022 Posted December 29, 2022 Ranma, please accept my condolences too. Horrible way to lose a friend.
