junkyardjeff Posted January 27, 2023 Posted January 27, 2023 Thinking about a stock engine for the S&H Torino so are there any kits out there that would have a stock mid 70s Ford engine, not too picky on which one and can be 302,351 or a 460. I would like one completely stock down to the air cleaner.
Ace-Garageguy Posted January 27, 2023 Posted January 27, 2023 (edited) Yeah, the engine in that kit is an awful lump. If memory serves, there's a decent 351C in the old AMT '74 or so Cougar. Not in much demand, can be found cheap. EDIT: Oops. Few years ago nobody wanted 'em. Now they're expensive. Edited January 27, 2023 by Ace-Garageguy

Mark Posted January 27, 2023 Posted January 27, 2023 '73 Cougar has underbody parts and engines carried over from the MPC (1969) Dyno Don Super Cat kit. 428 CJ and Boss 429, the 428 may have been used in 1970 but definitely not after that. The Boss never made it into any Cougar on an assembly line.

Dave Van Posted January 27, 2023 Posted January 27, 2023 Intake is the only non stock part. Any intake from a small block Ford that fits would work.
Fat Brian Posted January 27, 2023 Posted January 27, 2023 You can buy the engine from the stock version on eBay for fairly cheap. It's fine as long as you're not a super Ford fan. https://www.ebay.com/itm/125502217103?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=Vx5zeMoiSYW&sssrc=2349624&ssuid=CNi_i6G9QKy&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY

It does look good...unless the manifold extending a couple of scale inches beyond the back of the heads bothers you as much as it does me. Possibly the suggestion made above of just changing out intake manifolds is the best solution. 1

junkyardjeff Posted January 31, 2023 Author Posted January 31, 2023 I have the one coming off eBay,I probably have a intake I could use but do not have a 70s air cleaner.
