Slotto Posted February 1, 2023 Posted February 1, 2023 inspired by @ModelcarJR, I started my kit tonight. I'm undecided which body to use I'll figure that out after I finish the chassis. but I do know since it has an exposed engine, I'm spinning the fan. At the time of this writing, it's the smoothest spinner to date. Engine block is now assembled. 5
customline Posted February 1, 2023 Posted February 1, 2023 Ooooo .....look at that adorable little motor ?! Seriously? what does that puppy run on? Buttons? Ooo.......wait, no....solar? ? 1
Zippi Posted February 1, 2023 Posted February 1, 2023 Looking pretty kewl so far. I like the little motor your have for the fan blade. I picked this kit up at HL a few weeks ago and thought about starting it but I choice to start on my 59. 1
Andrew McD Posted February 1, 2023 Posted February 1, 2023 Spinning the fan with an electric motor.....how cool! I've never seen that done and look forward to following this build. 1
Tcoat Posted February 1, 2023 Posted February 1, 2023 Time to up the ante and get a spinning belt and alternator! 1
David G. Posted February 1, 2023 Posted February 1, 2023 This should be quite interesting.... you have my interest. David G. 1

I haven't found a mini motor with enough torque to drive a belt and pulleys. I've tried it but it binds up every time. The key to success is take out as much slop as possible. Meaning use a short shaft and try to keep everything as straight as possible. And make sure to anchor the electric motor so it doesnt try to walk. I'm finding this to be very precise work. So if you try it, take your time. This one is number 5 for me. 1

Ooo.......wait, no....solar? ? I use a variable power supply on my bench 0-30v. I try to not feed too much power to the motor as they will get hot. Right now for the others I rigged up a couple portable power supplies. They consist of 3 double As and a switch. The enclosures are desk organizers I found at the home store. I covered the tops with wood grain contact paper. I wanted to provide a way to take them to the club meeting. 2

LOL I was really just kidding. Even making just a spinning blade is well above my pay grade. 1
customline Posted February 1, 2023 Posted February 1, 2023 OK, here's what I'm thinking....a blue tooth ear bud in the trunk. "Alexa! Play Blueberry Hill by Fats Domino!".....heh heh heh.....☺️....no....I'm kidding,
mchook Posted February 1, 2023 Posted February 1, 2023 Very cool! Do you think a slot car rear axle & wheel would make a good bottom pulley? Just a thought.
espo Posted February 1, 2023 Posted February 1, 2023 I think it is a great idea and adds a new dimension to the display. 1
Slotto Posted February 2, 2023 Author Posted February 2, 2023 this is the Lincoln engine block. After I assembled it I ran a bead of hot glue down both edges on the top. Shes nice and secure now. I've started on the intake and heads (one piece). I've drilled holes for the plug wires and built a fuel rail for the 3 carbs. Pics soon. 1
Slotto Posted February 3, 2023 Author Posted February 3, 2023 Got some painting and assembly done. Am I to assume that little bump by the oil filter is the fuel pump? 1
Slotto Posted February 3, 2023 Author Posted February 3, 2023 I finished up the engine. I took my time with this one. No slop and it runs super smooth and a lot quieter than the others. The video shows it spinning on less than half a volt. Now it's on to the chassis 4
Slotto Posted February 4, 2023 Author Posted February 4, 2023 I feel it's necessary to have articulating front wheels so I tossed out the front axle. Not really, its in the boneyard. For this I sawed off the backing plates and drilled out some parts tree for the joint and cut it in 3s. One for each side. I glued the center pieces to the front tubular axle. Then I secured the axle to the front leaf spring with pins. This piece is so delicate and would have never held together with glue alone. After this sets up, I'll mount the other joints to the backing plates. Until next time. 1
David G. Posted February 4, 2023 Posted February 4, 2023 The engine looks great! The spinning fan is awesome! ? Well done! David G. 1
Slotto Posted February 4, 2023 Author Posted February 4, 2023 You get the idea. I got the chassis and body painted too. I decided to build the coupe. 1
WorldOfCarModelsCraft Posted February 4, 2023 Posted February 4, 2023 I subscribed! on YT I think Elon musk would be proud of engine. Amazing idea man! 1
Slotto Posted February 6, 2023 Author Posted February 6, 2023 trudging forward. Chassis is pretty much done. I did add a fuel line from the tank in the cabin thru the chassis and to the fuel pump. 3
NOBLNG Posted February 6, 2023 Posted February 6, 2023 Nice work, and some very interesting modifications you’ve done.? 1
David G. Posted February 7, 2023 Posted February 7, 2023 Sweet looking chassis! It has that "fresh out of the shop" look. David G. 1
Joe Nunes Posted February 7, 2023 Posted February 7, 2023 Coming along nicely with the modified details. ? Joe 1
