Finally got this one wrapped up. Started with the amt 68 z28 kit and the 63 nova wagon kit. The nova donated its wheels/tires, engine, and brake master cylinder. The idea behind this car was to build what a secretary, or older frugal person  who wanted something a little more sportier than a nova or other similar sized cars. The exterior emblems,( including the fender "250"), door lock and trunk cylinders are all photo etched pieces i found online. The wire wheels are the custom wheel option from the nova wagon as are the tires, both factory options. The center caps are actually from a model a. On the rear i added the license plate frame from the photo etched parts and the yenko dealer tag,( yenko was a dealership long before it was know for its high powered muscle cars).

Continuing the factory fresh look on the interior, i added photo etched rear view mirror, window roller handles, horn cap, glove box lock cylinder, pedals, and a pair of keys with a key tag sitting on the center console. I also added the protective floor mats i found online. Modifications include the radio delete panel, removal of the gauges in the center console (not available on the 6 cylinder cars), removed the head rest (they were a $60 option in 68), and added the seat belts.

Moving on to the chassis and drivetrain, i used the straight 6 from the nova kit. I ended having to cut the oil pan off and flipped it around to clear the crossmember.  I also cut the auto transmission off and replace with a parts box manual one. I painted it a cast iron color since only the high horse powered cars got the aluminum cased muncies. I scratch built most of the exhaust out of solder wire, an old parts box nova muffler and tail pipe( i cut the left side pipe and right exit off) finished that. Under the hood made my own wiring, fuel line, battery terminals, and all the hoses. I used the manual brake master from the nova and a photo etched radiator cap.

I found online the rpo codes and roughly what this car would have costed in 1968.                                    L22- 250 6 cylinder- 26.35.                M20- 4 speed - 184.35.                      N34- wood grained steering wheel 31.60.                                                    N95- wire wheel cover- 71.75.            Pw7- white line tires- 74.75.              Z87- deluxe interior- 110.60.                Im sure theres a few other options this would have had, but these are the major ones. So it would have roughly been under 3k at the dealer. The final picture is with the same kit i built around 15 years ago and how much better ive gotten lol

Great looking Camaro. Like your attention to the mechanical details to represent a base line Camaro.

I am new to this forum and car modeling in general (been doing military for 20 years though) and as much as I am in awe looking at all the customs, hot rods and street machine builds my heart still belongs to those basic real life vehicles that "normal" people drive and own.  My "usual" builds will all be along this sort of theme although as I build skills I may venture into the custom car at some point. Right now I still struggle to get a decent gloss paint job though!

That's pretty cool and I like that you went with a six for a base Camaro !  You've done some excellent detailing and it's perfect in white/red , great job !

Yes there was a Yenko before all the HiPo cars were built . . . love the dealer tag on the back !
