65slotcar Posted March 15, 2023 Author Posted March 15, 2023 thanks for all the comments and feedback. Very happy with the kit so far. Love the large scale ! Sorry MFH , no advertising on this one. 2
65slotcar Posted March 17, 2023 Author Posted March 17, 2023 The aluminum rims supplied in kit look great for a show car,but not so realistic for a race car. Dulled rims by scuffing with a red 3m scuff pad and with a Q-tip rubbed some Brass Black on rims and quickly wiped off with a paper towel. 2
David G. Posted March 19, 2023 Posted March 19, 2023 Nice work on the wheels, they look like actual magnesium "Mags". David G.
Belugawrx Posted March 19, 2023 Posted March 19, 2023 You're doing some excellent work on this Bill ! Following ?
Pierre Rivard Posted March 19, 2023 Posted March 19, 2023 These MFH kits intimidate me a bit but I love looking how you work it through. Rims look super. What does Brass Black do? It tarnishes the metal?

It is a mild acid and when applied to brass it will turn it black. I built a 1/8 scale Gurney Eagle engine model kit a while back and the kit supplied brass bolts. Another modeler suggested Brass Black for the bolts . Gave the bolts a black metal look. Not really intended for aluminum and was an experiment that went ok. the wheel inserts are painted with Mr Metal Color iron 212 and rubbed with a paper towel after paint has dried. it will make the edges a bit shiney. 65slotcar Posted March 20, 2023 Author Posted March 20, 2023 (edited) i skipped ahead a couple steps to finish the dash. the kit comes with clear plastic lens for the gauges. they didn't look so good when installed so i went with something i have tried before. a 2 part clear resin by Art Resin. drys super slow and easy to work with. 65slotcar Posted March 23, 2023 Author Posted March 23, 2023 Thanks Ray. The most detail i have done on a firewall. I hope it's wired correctly ! 4
65slotcar Posted March 27, 2023 Author Posted March 27, 2023 (edited) a small update and some advice. Not a big deal, but the kit does not come with lower radiator (pipe) hose. I made one and wasn't to hard. If i would have know before hand i would have made hose and installed before i glued engine to chassis. If not , prepare for some f-bombs like i dropped. 1320 Posted March 27, 2023 Posted March 27, 2023 Great progress! I've been loving following along. Jim
David G. Posted March 28, 2023 Posted March 28, 2023 The dash wiring looks great! No harm in a few f-bombs now and again. David G.
Belugawrx Posted March 28, 2023 Posted March 28, 2023 Looking fantastic Bill ! Love all the wiring on the firewall ..very realistic. Cheers
Eric C Posted March 30, 2023 Posted March 30, 2023 This is looking great. Love the Essex Wire version of the Cobra and it'll look stunning when finished.
Brudda Posted August 2, 2023 Posted August 2, 2023 This looks great!!! I built one a little while ago. They are fun. Watch the right front suspension. When you put the body on the wheel/ tire seems to sit too far back. Best to check now . I had to fix mine. Hope you do not have the same problem. Just a heads up.
Mark IV Posted September 2, 2023 Posted September 2, 2023 FYI on a Salisbury differential as used by all Cobras, the gear case ("pig, chunk, carrier, etc.") was red oxide as just as on a Ford 9", the carrier was dipped before machining.
