Good luck with this challenging build Ray . . . The largest kit that I have built has been in 1:12 scale, so I cannot even imagine building a model car in 1:8 scale. Sometimes I have a look at the 1:8 scale Pocher kits of the Rolls-Royce cars . . . and then I see the purchase price, which scares me !

Thanks guys. I have talked to Brudda about these kits but not the chrome. Not sure if I could get a replacement that they would be any better. Not sure what I will find when I see more of the chrome. I looks like maybe these parts were allowed to move in the package and maybe that is where the wear came from ????

Wow. That is certainly going to be one spectacular model. Nothing like going out with a bang.  :D

Seriously. I'll miss seeing your work...but maybe you'll get re-energized after a nice loooooooong break.

Far as a new hobby goes, maybe find somebody's real Cobra kit car to finish up? They're out there for a fraction of the cost of buying everything new.

Just a thought.

I'll be following as this one comes together.   ^_^

Ray, you may be able to restore the chrome finish in the places where worn using C1 Polishing Powder.

It has the consistency of graphite powder and is simply applied and buffed up to a shine.

Look it up on C1 Models website.

I went on the site as well a a different site and got an out of stock . Anyone know where I can get some ?  Other choices are maybe wrap in BMF or strip and paint white which would look ok with the white stripes on the car .

Sorry to hear that the C1 was unobtainable Ray.

The Bare Metal Foil might be a good option if the wrap is around a cylindrical shape.

I used BMF once to disguise some truly awful mould lines on the front bumper of a 1/12th scale Monogram 57 Chevy. Rubbed them down and polished smooth. Applied BMF and clear lacquered afterwards. Worked reasonably well to disguise the rework.

Well since I can not locate that Polish I tried wrapping some BMF on the pipe . That did not go well . Looked better but not right . Decided I am going to strip the chrome and prime and paint them .

Ray, you may have been able to get away with the BMF of you had two brackets on the pipe to give you two edges to work to.

The white paint will be your best option that you are doing under the circumstances short of finding a local plating shop.

One of the pipes did come out pretty good with foil but the second one kept getting wrinkles that I could not  rid of. I think painting them white should look good .

This kit is not Pocher quality .  I guess you could call this progress .   I managed to get the bad chrome on the pipes stripped .

BAsed on my experience with their Ferraris, Pocher is not a name I associate with quality.

Yes Bob, a pretty big project. Slow going since life has gotten in the way as it does. Not thinking this kit was worth the money at this point. I may change my mind going forward.

I have to believe the Pocher of today makes somewhat better kits than the ones they did in the 1970's. I mean, there are folks selling CDs full of hints and tips to overcome the poor quality and fit and finish issues  of those old ones. That being said, where else are you going to get these 1/8 scale marvels for "reasonable" prices. And the results can be stunning.

i have a few of the Alfas, a Fiat and a couple Rolls kits. I bought them all second hand and still had to justify the price in my mind...

I don’t have any experience with the kits you mentioned and have never seen them in person. I have however built their Ferraris - the F40 and both the Testarossas. More than once. And they were not what I would describe as quality kits or very detailed considering their scale. And they were from the ‘90s. (Or perhaps late ‘80s). The only way to build a high end models out of them is to spend a small fortune on some extremely rare and downright unreasonably priced aftermarket detail kits. The cost of building a great model out of those kits, without even going into the tools you will need, will be well into the four digits.
