I think you'll find that a number of parts that were blocked off for the RC2 issue have been restored back for this re-issue.  There will also be a nice new expanded decal sheet too.

Hi Steve,

Hopefully the decal sheet will include stripes for the optional XL GT (black, white, red, gold, and maybe other colors that I'm not aware of).

Steve, Any chance we'll get GT C-Stripes?

Yes,  GT style C-stripes in both Black and White.

My buddy's parents ordered a '70 XL Sportsroof in two-tone green with the high-back, comfort weave bucket seats, sport mirrors and optional wheel covers.  It only had a 390 and wasn't a GT, but it was really sharp.  I'll have to get some pictures of it from him since the car is long gone.

Did this kit ever have a Stock Air Cleaner, ot just the Dual Carbs and Air Horns that are shown in my kit?

(the 2004 version)

Ostensibly, the kit's engine isn't stock to begin with -- the 427 SOHC should've been a custom option, as it's nowhere near stock (IIRC, the 390 was standard, with two versions of the unrelated-to-the-FE-series  429 as options).

Can't go by those Racing Chumps era box art representations.

The standard engine in the '69 XL was the 240 SIX CYLINDER and 3-speed trans.  I wonder how many ordered that!

Optional engines were the 302 and 390 with a two-barrel carb, and the 429 with two-barrel and four-barrel carb.  The 302 and 390 ran on Regular fuel, and the 429s ran on Premium.

So, for a closer to stock build, I need to swap the engine.

I cannot imagine this barge with a 6 or the 302!

Guess I'll be on the lookout for a 390 or 429.

I'm really beginning to like to like this kit. That Hemming's article really makes me want one. Maybe somebody will do a resin convertible body.

Steve Perry (Calnaga Castings) sells a really nice 429 based on the engine in the Revell 70 Torino kit.

Thanks, Scott, I checked out his engine. It looks really good.

I might be getting one.

Just coming back around to this kit.

Would any body have set of instructions for the Original or"Countdown Version" from 1977 that show how the 'custom' body parts are used?

I can make some guesses, but I'd like to see what the older directions show.

Thanks.

Alan

None of the custom body parts are used in the '69 kit.  They are leftovers from the '67.  '68 and '69 had no custom version.

Thanks! I had not known that. So, all it has ever been is the "Bumble's Bee" drag machine, and a Stock build?

That helps, my planning the build.

There's the drag version, a street machine version (with the carbureted OHC engine and hood scoop), and the stock version.

I saw this kit making the rounds on the forum; I would totally pick one up and build the XL GT; does the kit come with those stripes or would I have to come up with stripes myself? I'd paint it all white with red stripes; saw a photo of one with that colour scheme in a book I read but couldn't find the example online. Red and white is nice, too, also green and black...

"Custom" is ALWAYS an option, just depends on how creative you can get. 😉

I bought the kit, and it does have the C stripe Decals. When i built this version as a XL/GT Convertible,  i wanted to use the gold C stripes from Keith Marks,  but they disintegrated,  so i left the stripes off of my build.  However, it will now get its stripes in white, as the latest version of the kit has both black and white C Stripes.  Thank You Round 2. The wheelcovers came from Missing Link Resin, where i modified the centers to look more like the Ford Wheelcovers. Mamameetingjuly212012025.jpg.27958f69427b85db8b3e3e8fe43613a8.jpgjuly2012024-1.jpg.75d81331b6c7a755dd203b8ed7d09f4c.jpgMamameetingjuly212012027.jpg.d64dd50e43b93f77c358e9a479de3674.jpgjuly2012025-1.jpg.d8875645b985f166895c85e5989f7d5f.jpg

The MPC Jeepster has (had?) those wheel covers.

Revell '65 Chevelle does too and maybe easier to find.

As does the Lindberg/AMT ‘66 Chevelle.  They also look good on AMT’s ‘67 Impalas.  Didn’t some Mopar cars use these or something similar also?
