Ace-Garageguy Posted September 9, 2023 Posted September 9, 2023 Lots to love on this one, like that dry sump tank. It just gets better and better.

Great engine work. I have to ask...have you ever experienced an issue with the Tamiya black accent reacting to a painted finish?

No I have not had any reaction from the detailers, I have used black, brown and gray. Black being the most useful in my opinion.
NOBLNG Posted September 10, 2023 Posted September 10, 2023 Fantastic detailing you are doing here JC!? I won’t be nearly as meticulous as you when I get around to building mine, but I will definitely be referencing this thread for all sorts of tips. Thanks!

afx Posted September 10, 2023 Author Posted September 10, 2023 I have a resin kit of a Porsche 356 GTL Abarth. The kit provides the body, side window frames, seats, dash and door handles. I have started trying to build it. I was fortunate to find windshield glass (from a Fujimi Porsche 911 Speedster) that fits well enough after modification. And I have modified a Porsche 356B chassis pan which is what the 1:1 was based on.
Pierre Rivard Posted September 10, 2023 Posted September 10, 2023 The Abarth resin body looks very good. So you are now doing 3 cars on this w.i.p.? Busy man!
250 Testa Rossa Posted September 10, 2023 Posted September 10, 2023 Is that the one from ScaleKraft or the one from Star Dust Hobby House?

afx Posted September 13, 2023 Author Posted September 13, 2023 Started modifying the interior panels and fitting the dash for the Abarth.
absmiami Posted September 13, 2023 Posted September 13, 2023 Turns out that the 356 Abarth ran the 1964 Sebring 12 - entered as #44 - could i convince you to build it in the Sebring livery for The 64 Sebring group build ? I’ll even say …. Please … the Racingsportscars site that’s linked in the first page of the Sebring build thread has a picture - - -

afx Posted September 13, 2023 Author Posted September 13, 2023 (edited) Decided to have a go at building a car dolly for the 356s. I made the supports removable so that I can adjust it to fit other cars. Had to add a few more braces since mine isn't made of steel. Edited September 13, 2023 by afx 4
afx Posted September 14, 2023 Author Posted September 14, 2023 (edited) Happy with the stance on the Abarth but need to address the discrepancy in the front wheel openings. Edited September 14, 2023 by afx 1

Pierre Rivard Posted September 14, 2023 Posted September 14, 2023 Thought the nose might be a touch high but looking at ref picture it appears to be right. That Abarth looks really good. Would be cool to enter it in Andy's 64 Sebring group build.

The body sits level so that was what I was after for stance. The cars were designed with significant clearance at the front wheels.
250 Testa Rossa Posted September 15, 2023 Posted September 15, 2023 The wheels you have on currently are the ones that are currently on the car that was on display at the Lyon Air Museum a few years back. Most of them had the normal 356A/B wheels on them. I may build mine as the #44 but I am also considering the one from the Ingram Collection.
