dragcarz Posted September 13, 2024 Author Posted September 13, 2024 Got the Purple on, hard part is over…… 6
dragcarz Posted September 14, 2024 Author Posted September 14, 2024 Thanks Rich and Scott. I have a little clean up to do before I clear it. I’ve started on the motor, I broke one of the ladder bars too much handling of the fifty year old Johan plastic. I’ve started on the motor and gathering parts for the dry sump.
Nitro330 Posted September 15, 2024 Posted September 15, 2024 Paint looks great Roger! What purple did you use?

Steve "Stangfreak? Mason Posted September 17, 2024 Posted September 17, 2024 (edited) Back in the day, around 1971 to 1975, my father worked delivering whisky to the state stores of Ohio. Somewhere along the line a group of dad's friends and fellow workers got involved in fake hi-jackings (I believe). The next thing I knew as a 17-18 year old kid we were having cook outs and Billy Stepp and a few of his friends would show up from time to time. Eat a good steak dinner and load several cases of whisky in a pickup and be on their way. I owned a 71 Dodge Demon 340 that quickly got a name on the streets, and with local law enforcement. My dad pressured me into delivering these cases of stolen whisky to various locations. I always believed that was Bill Stepp's idea because he raced a 72 pro-stock Demon, and I remembered him and my dad discussing how big the trunk space was in the Demons. Bill was a nice man and always treated me with respect and a good tipper too. I seen and sat in his Demon many times and he gave allot of tips how to make those 340s scream. Here's the one I built of my ride. This is "AWESOME" you are constructing a model of his pro~stock ride. It was a gorgeous and one "FAST" Demon. I can't wait to see the finished model!!! Great story Steve, I love your Demon, both of them. I really miss the 70s. I’m enjoying this build but I’m ready to get her finished too.
Rattlecan Dan Posted September 18, 2024 Posted September 18, 2024 Lot of nice work done to this build. Gonna be a killa'.
AmericanMuscleFan Posted September 18, 2024 Posted September 18, 2024 A lot has happened since I was gone, a '72 Demon grille is now available in 3D... I'll have to get back to my build soon because my fabrication will only be outdated!!! ? You have made great progress Roger, your perseverance is paying off and your project is progressing very well! ?

Ian McLaren Posted September 19, 2024 Posted September 19, 2024 Roger, I just spent the last hour going over your entire build from the start. What impresses is how clean and precise the model has been during the whole process, as well as the attention to stance and scale. As the model advances this care and attention is showing through as each area is wrapped up. I apologize for not paying attention sooner but I am now a confirmed follower and fan, well done!

Thank you Ian, I really appreciate your comments! To me, what made theses cars so cool was how they looked. They looked fast just sitting still. A lot of that is attributed to their stance. I try and find as many photos of the real car and pay attention to where the center of the wheel is in relation to the rocker panel, or the bottom door edge. If the real car had stretched wheel openings I try my best to replicate them. Tire sizing is also critical and I research the car to find the size used on the actual car and match as close as I can the correct size tires in scale. I could build The Demon kit out of the box, add some slicks, wheels, and the decals and call it good, but then when I look at it, it doesn’t invoke in me that feeling of when I look at the real car. I want to look at my build and hear the motor running in my head, that’s when I know it’s good. Thank you again for the compliment, much appreciated! 1
Codi Posted September 20, 2024 Posted September 20, 2024 That paint is simply striking how that turned out. That'll put a smile on anyone's face. cheers, tim
James2 Posted September 20, 2024 Posted September 20, 2024 Now that is a nice model. And a great story. What paint did you use for yellow?
dragcarz Posted September 24, 2024 Author Posted September 24, 2024 Quick status update. Decals applied and clear coated with Splash 2K clear, love this paint! A couple specks of dirt, I will polish out in a couple days. 4

dragcarz Posted September 24, 2024 Author Posted September 24, 2024 I’m using the 3D printed grill and it has tabs that line up with the reissued Demon front bumper. I was comparing it to the original bumper/ grille and there’s a lot of difference between the two. The new bumper has very sharp edges. The recess for the license plate should not be filled. Need to do some work. 1
TarheelRick Posted September 24, 2024 Posted September 24, 2024 Really enjoy watching this build come together. Your attention to detail is phenomenal. In the pictures of the SSDI article it appears as if he is running air bags on the rear axle, of course it could just be shadows. Might make for some hard wheels up launches.
