bobss396 Posted January 13 Share Posted January 13 Started on another AMT '40 Ford. I built my 1st one probably in 1964. Removed the floor pan, put in a vacu-formed piece I got at a show. I made new chassis pieces, the kit ones needed too much work. Suspension is otherwise per the kit. I have a set of AMT '66 Ford wheels on Modelhaus tires and a set from Jay's Resin Tires made up. I'm going with the kit nailhead Buick so far. On other builds with engine swaps I have used the kit transmission since it has to be short to fit the chassis. Body is about 90% there. Frenched the headlights and going bumper delete. Made up a new radiator top. The kit one was pretty shabby. In the ballpark but will save it for another build since I will locate it by a hole in the oil pan up front. I'm sticking with the Buick engine. I'll be going with the Modelhaus wide whites with slicks out back. I have another lot of '40 parts from somewhere I pick parts from. Not quite enough to build 2 cars from unless I ditch the torque tube and go with a parallel leaf rear. And... this odd part at the bottom shows up in various '40 kits. I took 1/16" off the hubs and .030" from each backing plate. Now it looks much better. I was building the AMT '40 Ford and discovered I lost one of the taillights so my idea was to french them. bobss396 Posted January 24 Author Share Posted January 24 More work on the 40. Interior is done and I'm happy with it. Chassis is painted with Tamiya TS 4 German Gray. Switched to the Ford Y block late in the game. Body work is almost done, needs work above the windshield. I frenched in the kit light pods. Glued them in with CA glue and waited a few days for it to dry. Then sanded them to the front fenders. Prime, putty, sand, rinse repeat. I have fitted the lenses to the pods. The 2nd coat looks even better. The 1st had a few light spots in it. I'll scuff any bumps off it with #3200 grit and go with the MM clear later today. The designer was apparently a Chevy man. 🙂 The more I look at that Y-Block, the better I like it. The y-block was a remnant from my '56 Ford figure-8 car. I still have the built up Buick engine to use on another Trophy Series build, maybe a '36 Ford.
