David, we'll call that chrome, scale chrome. When you shrink the chrome molecules it reduces the combined reflective area and the reduction of area takes down the luster a couple of notches on the radial spectrum. 'er ah, something like that.?

I got it straight from a Clydesdale.

Your rear bumper looks fine David . . . Interesting that you should have to admit to further impatience, because I too am guilty of repeated impatience syndrome, let's call it ' R I S ' . While test fitting the carbide generator to the Model T Ford and due to premature handling, I noticed my thumb print in the black painted surface of the running board . . . Ooops !

Yeah, I should start a charitable foundation! :D

That works for me, thanks Len.

Bumper looks great , David!

Thank you Carl!

The front bumper will be done soon. As long as I can keep myself from messing it up and having to start over... for a third time.

Hello Everybody!

After more than fifty hours work over the last six months, this one is done!

Futura_72.jpg.407c0d64f9e9b16e6ddc7b5b35db728c.jpg

I'm just going to let it rest for a few days so I can have a look at it with fresh eyes. I'll take care of any touchups that need to be done, then off to the final photo shoot!

When I get the final photos taken and edited, I'll post them in the "Under Glass" section.

Thanks to all of you who stuck with me during this build.  Your interest, encouragement and support helped to inspire me to follow through and complete this build.

Thank you!

Yes indeed! She's a beauty, Dave. Congrats!

Thanks Jim. I agree, there are not many great looking cars today. A few good ones but no great ones.

Thanks again to everybody for your support and encouragement. I certainly made benefit of it on this build.

Brilliant, David. Nicest Futura I've seen built. Your perseverance has paid off. Well done.

Thank you most kindly Trevor.

We need a back-story for the occupants now, Dave.  Are they married? Dating? Just friends or is she his secretary and they are, let's say, taking long lunches together? ?

Edit: http://www.joesherlock.com/Futura.html   <-some interesting info here...be sure to read the fine print at the bottom of the page. ?

Well, they're either 1:25 scale figures that were included in the kit or they were people hired to help display and demonstrate Ford's new concept vehicle at the Auto Expo.

In either case, they're models:D

Sorry Jim, I don't do figures very often and I do back stories even less often.  I tend more toward explanations than stories.

Well, okay then. ? ...but she looks drunk.

Good result on this build of yours David G., and I see some interesting comments regarding the figures . . . Those model cars of mine that do have a figure with them, I do find that it adds to the realism of the car, in much the same way that photographing the model car within a diorama setting provides a more realistic feel than say a glass display cabinet might do. Having said that, I do understand why some model builders have zero interest in adding figures, and why they might not see the point of it . . .

David, it was a long journey but in the end it was worth it. She looks great, amazing what you can do with a simple old kit when you set your mind to it.  Color is just perfect for it and really reflects the era. ?

As for the girl, they just came from the movies. Saw “The Long, Long, Trailer” and she is trying to do her best Lucille Ball impersonation.   ?

Thank you very much Len.

As I was painting the figure of the woman, I actually had my grandmother in mind and how she may have looked in the late Fifties.

She had auburn hair, green eyes and was quite the looker in her day. She was also rather fashionable in her manner of dress.

Thanks again for the kind words.
