Andy Oldenburg Posted June 2, 2024 Posted June 2, 2024 I was inspired to build a rusty old barn find by a story in a classic car magazine. Being my first rust job, I had to dig up some old painting skills I used to use during my arts and crafts era. At the start I thought I might get done a bit faster than building a flashy glossy body finish. But I soon found out that a real rust and patina job means attention to every part of the build to make it look old. And I had a wonderful time doing so! Kept thinking about what part might need more dirt or rust or just get a broken look. I will skip all of the details about the building and painting process on this build. Those interested are invited to check out my WIP thread. A big part of the fun was deliberately breaking parts for the sake of the effect: Grinding holes into the body, melting big dents with a lighter, ripping up the benches, flattening tires with a heat gun.... I sure will do something like this again! Thank you for taking a look! If you want to see the video please check out this link: https://youtu.be/Cs66DjiWCQY 9
espo Posted June 2, 2024 Posted June 2, 2024 Great looking weathering and general distress of the body, paint and interior. Very realistic looking finishes. A lot of fine detailing extras on the mechanical as well as interior.
karbuildr Posted June 2, 2024 Posted June 2, 2024 I admire the skills it takes to create this kind of detail. I’ve never weathered a car I built but yours is exceptional. The addition of the snake is a nice touch.
mchook Posted June 2, 2024 Posted June 2, 2024 Great job on the weathering! Nicely done model, thanks for sharing.
Andy Oldenburg Posted June 3, 2024 Author Posted June 3, 2024 Hi guys, thanks for your friendly response! I'm happy you like my build?
ncbuckeye67 Posted June 3, 2024 Posted June 3, 2024 Excellent work! This type of build is definitely a lot more work than a shiny "show car" is. Great job!
happy grumpy Posted June 3, 2024 Posted June 3, 2024 Great work on the Hudson. I like this kind of build as you have to plan differently than a shinny model. You did a good job on the weathering and exposed interior.
Bainford Posted June 3, 2024 Posted June 3, 2024 That is one sad looking Hudson. Very nice work Andy. Nice weathering skills.
XYHARRY Posted June 4, 2024 Posted June 4, 2024 These type of builds are usually the most fun as the stress factor of making a mistake is virtually non-existent. Great detail and weathering, really well done Andy. Cheers, David. ??
Zippi Posted June 4, 2024 Posted June 4, 2024 Boy....that ole Hudson has seen better days. Nice job on the weathering.
Andy Oldenburg Posted June 4, 2024 Author Posted June 4, 2024 Thank you everybody! Great motivation for my next build.... which will NOT be a barnfind?
Gluebomber Posted June 4, 2024 Posted June 4, 2024 Excellent concept and great execution, especially on the interior and engine compartment. Nice Work!
