Tangerine Dream is done. This is a 1949 AMT Mercury Sedan.  Wanted to build a clean 60’s custom Leadsled.  Color is Testors Firey Orange over Gaia Shiny Brass with a Steel Apple fade.  The paint job was inspired from the Gene Winfield fade paint jobs of the 60’s.  Engine is the Flathead from the kit, with VCG Resins carbs, air cleaners, oil breather and headers.  Protech sparkplug boots, MAD distributor.  AMT classic whitewalls replaced the odd sized kit tires.  Door handles, trim and emblems were shaved and filled.  Trunk gaps were filled in and corners on hood were rounded.  All chrome was replaced with Revell Chrome, and trim is Bare Metal foil.  License Plates and dash are from Best Model Car Parts.  And lastly the Tiki shifter is a VCG Resins gem! Next up, a chopped 49 Merc.  Enjoy.

Great work! All the details is what makes this model so nice. The Tiki shifter, the heads, the air filters.... That paint... Your blend is so well done that at first I had figure out is it two different colors or is it a colorshift paint.  Funny thing is that I always had a soft spot for the '49 Mercs and still have never build one.

Fabulous looking paint with a very well done and subtle color fade, beautifully done custom work and a very well detailed engine and interior!

Holy cow Scott, that's one gorgeous Merc!

I would be honored if you chose to post some pics in my thread dedicated to the venerable '49 Mercury.

Thanks,

David G.

Simply stunning. It still blows my mind that a kit with a 1963 origin still builds up very well. No wonder I have a bunch in my stash. I like the AMT kits over the Revell ones.

Really cool Mercury there Scott, your detail and styling is admirable. I have this model in my rebuild queue and after seeing yours I now have a better idea of how I will rebuild it. Really well done and thanks for the inspiration.

Cheers,

David. ??

I really like what you’ve done with your Merc. Amazing paint work and I really like that you went with the flathead. Beautifully done overall. The AMT ‘49 Mercury is my favourite as well.

Wow. That is just about the best AMT Merc I’ve ever seen. Love the paint, the engine, the interior…

One question. Sorry if it’s a silly one. You say the chrome was replaced with Revell. Is that the Revell Chrome spray paint?
