Just finished it and would never build another one!!!

Used Model Truckin' decals from Jerry Reeter.

Back ground was my 17 year old Grandson swearing in to the Marine Corps today in Indianapolis.

Despite the wrangling it took you seem to have subdued it very well. Looks great in that livery. You have to admit that it does build into a great looking trailer. I have one in the stash which I'm hoping to build when we move somewhere bigger. I've opened the box but gone no further so far, not even took the parts out of the bags yet, maybe I'm scared to see how warped they are!

Excellent job on a very trying kit. The colors and decals look perfect!  I was a glutton for punishment, because after I built the Gulf tanker, I then built the Union 76 one right after. Then I bought one of the chrome plated trailers as well.

I built one of those as a teen in the 70's. I have no recollection of how it went together. What are its flaws and is it the same build as the chrome one?

I’m almost positive the chrome tanker is the same kit as the older kits, except for the chrome plating, and newer decals.
Getting the two tube halves together can be a bit frustrating, and the mounts that hold the tank to the frame must be just right, or they will have gaps between the tank and frame. I remember the fuel lines needing a lot of clean up to fit straight under the trailer. I also remember the axles being too long making the tires stick way out past the fenders, so making new ones is a must. Still a pretty cool old kit though. Still way better than some of the other kits out there. I love the old AMT truck models, no matter how much work they may need.

Mine was an older rerelease and had a lot of flash and misalignment and warfare issues.

I think some of those issues were addressed with the newest release.

There is a good review and build on YouTube on the Chrome version.

Those tanks are so much bigger than the one I built.  In a way I'm glad I didn't have to deal with parting lines and joints where the two halves come together.  However, I'll bet the same technique could be used to scratch build one of the larger ones as well.

I built the “plated” version a few months ago, and it was a lot tougher than I thought it would be. If you don’t sit the tank in exactly the right place, you’ll never get the ladder in the back to line up right… and good luck with the pipes on the bottom and the valve manifold!
