Gramps46 Posted October 31, 2024 Posted October 31, 2024 My 1/25 - 1/24 scale collection of Ferraris that won Le Mans is growing with the addition of the 2023 winner from BBurago. Only 3 more to finish. Do you know which ones were carved from wood? Oops, 1958 TR58 and 1954 375 Plus are out of order. 8
250 Testa Rossa Posted November 1, 2024 Posted November 1, 2024 I'm thinking the TR58 was carved out of wood

Rich Chernosky Posted November 2, 2024 Posted November 2, 2024 Really great collection, thanks for sharing Gary.
Gramps46 Posted November 2, 2024 Author Posted November 2, 2024 Before there were home computers, resin kits, the internet, and 3D printing, we made drawings from magazines and books and carved models from wood. These were in 1/25 scale because that was what we knew at the time. 4
Mike 1017 Posted November 2, 2024 Posted November 2, 2024 WOW what a great collection. How many years have you been building these Ferraris'? Mike
1959scudetto Posted November 2, 2024 Posted November 2, 2024 Very nice collection, Gary - thanks for showing them all together ! Great model of the 1949 LM winner: from drawing to wood-carving to the final modelcar - absolutely marvellous!
Dave B Posted November 2, 2024 Posted November 2, 2024 Great builds Gary, I'm a sook, I've never attempted to carve a model from wood, they're exceptional! Dave B
Pierre Rivard Posted November 3, 2024 Posted November 3, 2024 Impressive would be an understatement for what you created from magazine pictures, sketching to scale and transforming it into a 3 dimensional shape.... from a block of wood? Pure artistry Gary, pure artistry.
Gramps46 Posted November 3, 2024 Author Posted November 3, 2024 A big thank you to all for your comments.
Hoffman Posted November 3, 2024 Posted November 3, 2024 Amazing body of work, Gary! Most impressive. Thank you for sharing.
MarkJ Posted November 10, 2024 Posted November 10, 2024 Wow, Gary. Carved from wood. This is truly amazing work. Nobody would know if you did not tell them. I must ask one question though, what about those amazing wheels and tires? How did you create them?

Mark, the wire wheels were based upon the first release of the AMT Cobra kit. They were the only thing available at the time.
MarkJ Posted November 17, 2024 Posted November 17, 2024 So, you made them based on the amt cobra kit tires and wheels? That is amazing. Thanks for the info.
absmiami Posted November 18, 2024 Posted November 18, 2024 Grampz - remember the British Model Cars mag fr the late sixties / early seventies ? The one with the 3 view drawings in each issue - did you ever make something fr those plans ??

Scale drawings is an interesting topic and may be worth a separate topic. I wonder if they would have any value to the 3D folks. 1

Matt Bacon Posted November 19, 2024 Posted November 19, 2024 (edited) Thanks, guys.... I literally just found these as well, which are still live on the web: http://www.cscra.co.uk/classic-slot-car-racing-association-prototype-parade.html There are more of them, even if some overlap with the MCM ones... best, M.
