Ceaser_Salad Posted November 3, 2024 Posted November 3, 2024 Hi all, For those that know Panteras, I wanted to know if the rear hood scoops shown on this 1971 Pantera are custom, or factory stock and if there are model kits that depict this version of the Pantera. I snapped this from a youtube video from Vice Grip Garage. Let me know,
Bainford Posted November 3, 2024 Posted November 3, 2024 (edited) Yes, those are factory cowl vents. Fujimi Pantera Gunze Sangyo Pantera Edited November 4, 2024 by Bainford

Fujimi Pantera Gunze Sangyo Pantera I think he means those scoops on the rear deck behind the side windows, Trevor. I don't remember ever seeing a Pantera with them before either, but I really never paid much attention either. 3 1
Bainford Posted November 3, 2024 Posted November 3, 2024 Cheers Steve. I think I was thrown by the term 'hood scoop'. 1
vamach1 Posted November 3, 2024 Posted November 3, 2024 THey look like they were optional for a Lamborghini but never came stock on a Pantera. You see a lot of other Lambo parts on them like huge rear “wings.”
Fat Brian Posted November 3, 2024 Posted November 3, 2024 I've never seen scoops like those before, even in the 90s when there were a lot of Countach influences on Pantera body kits. The car was obviously re-done at some point so it would be interesting to see how they're made.

I will have to do some looking around for 70s-90s lambo parts and see what looks right. If anyone else has information, pls do add on.
stitchdup Posted November 4, 2024 Posted November 4, 2024 you could get a wing from a lambo but the rear vents are completely different. the lambo ones are very short while the pantera cover the top of the fender. if you have acess to a printer you could print a pantera as a slightly smaller scale then remove the fender tops to use to make the vents. if you get the scale right it should just mean cut the top off the fender, add a base to it and fit to the kit. if you printed a gts body you would get the wing too

It shouldn’t be too difficult to fabricate some from styrene sheet? They aren’t stock, so they don’t have to match exactly. As long as the two sides look the same…JMO. They look pretty easy to make from sheet styrene, they're basically the same shape as that face of the rear hatch cover. Use that area for a template and then thin strips to make the open area. 1
1972coronet Posted November 4, 2024 Posted November 4, 2024 Derek's ( Vice Grip Garage ) is a 1971 model. Apparently, those do have those 'vents' from the factory ; see link : 1971 De Tomaso Pantera — Petersen Automotive Museum

Never a factory option or race part either. I specialized in Panteras for years, and have done just about everything that can be done to one. They're not Lambo parts either. Just somebody's one-off dorko mod. The typical mod is to replace the quarter window glass with scoops. The gills immediately behind the quarter-windows are sometimes replaced with scoops, but it's not a common mod because it requires cutting into important structure, in an area where Panteras are notoriously weak. Ace-Garageguy Posted November 5, 2024 Posted November 5, 2024 (edited) If you're looking for interesting Pantera customs, this one-off dubbed 7X was designed by Tom Tjaarda as a show-car. The factory did this major facelift in 1990, with a Ferrari F40-style wing, and several were built for customers as late as '97, maybe later. Ceaser_Salad Posted November 6, 2024 Author Posted November 6, 2024 For clarity: this is what I am referring to: Seems like the best option would be to just use styrene as suggested. I don't have a 3d printer as of yet, but if I did I would just reprint the entire rear lid to add the scoops. thanks everyone for the info, keep adding on. the more the merrier
dino246gt Posted November 8, 2024 Posted November 8, 2024 This is the best old picture I have of a friend's Pantera, showing that detail: This yellow one is waiting for replacement glass: 1
