fordf-100 Posted November 17, 2024 Posted November 17, 2024 This is the 1/24 Aston Martin from the Revell easy click kit. I didn’t want to build this as the James Bond car so I filled in the roof for the ejection seat and the trunk for the bullet proof shield. I put some parts box wheels from the 2000 T Bird and went with some MCW fire mist orange paint, I also cut out the front license plate holder from the bumper. Overall I was pretty happy how it came out but I’m not thrilled with how the wheels fit. Let me know what yo7 guys think! 17
happy grumpy Posted November 17, 2024 Posted November 17, 2024 Agreed, I also build mine stock. The JB stuff looks to toy-ish for my taste. That paint job is awesome. Really glad Revell addressed this one, it was long overdue. 1
karbuildr Posted November 17, 2024 Posted November 17, 2024 Paint work is beautiful, I think you did great work and the wheels and tires look fine to me.
STU111 Posted November 17, 2024 Posted November 17, 2024 Paint looks superb. Refreshing to see one that isn’t silver. ??
Jim B Posted November 18, 2024 Posted November 18, 2024 Great looking Aston martin. Very well done making in a stock-ish DB5. I, too, have been turned away from this kit as I thought the James Bond stuff made it too much like a toy.
Leica007 Posted November 18, 2024 Posted November 18, 2024 Like that color over some excellent body work, the finish is great, very smooth. I think the wheel/tire combo looks good.
Phildaupho Posted November 18, 2024 Posted November 18, 2024 Very attractive. The wheels lol very appropriate.
XYHARRY Posted November 18, 2024 Posted November 18, 2024 The colour looks great but for me the wheels look too modern for this car. Great job on the conversion to stock, really well done Phil. Cheers, David. ?? 1
fordf-100 Posted November 18, 2024 Author Posted November 18, 2024 Thanks for the comments everyone! So as I was looking at the pictures which to me sometimes make flaws easier for me to see on my models I noticed my grille wash looks like BLAH_BLAH_BLAH_BLAH. On this kit it was the first time I tried Tamiya panel line accent on the hood, trunk and door lines, that came out ok I think for a first time! I also used it on the grille and it doesn't look good, should that not be used on grilles and similar stuff? I'm sure this is covered else where but what should I use for grille washes? I have tried thinned black paint, black ink and I just cant seem to kit a nice looking wash on a grille, any tips would be appreciated! Thanks!

With a grill that has wide gaps like your DB5 I use enamel gloss black brushed on to cover the whole inner grill then using Q-tips to wipe clean the chrome slats. Don't use acrylic paint as it dries too quickly. For grills with narrow gaps I just use panel line accent black, making sure it is applied to the grill whilst laid flat on the workbench. Hope this helps Phil. Cheers, David. ?? Gloss black enamel Panel line accent
Zippi Posted November 18, 2024 Posted November 18, 2024 I'm really liking your build on the Aston martin Phil. Nicely done.
Mike 1017 Posted November 18, 2024 Posted November 18, 2024 I Luv the non-Silver paint job. Now you got me thinking I have this kit on my Santas list. I don't think that Mrs. Clause would go for 2 kits. Mike

I’ve tried with acrylic black and I get now why I had horrible luck with it!
ncbuckeye67 Posted November 18, 2024 Posted November 18, 2024 Beautifully done! I especially love the color.
espo Posted November 18, 2024 Posted November 18, 2024 Beautiful looking paint color and finish. Clean looking body details. I think I would build one along the same lines as yours rather than the Bond Car.

PhilX Posted November 22, 2024 Posted November 22, 2024 (edited) The same idea I have for mine : built it stock. Which modifications on the windows frame to avoid the notches ? USCP sells after market front grille and wire wheels for DB5. Edited November 22, 2024 by PhilX

I didn’t do much on the windows, I filed the tabs on the windows for a little better fit then bare metal foiled them on the car which was tough for me cause that chrome strip is really small!
