oldcarfan Posted January 9 Posted January 9 Correct me if I'm wrong, but as I understand it, our vehicles and technology except for wheels/tires, should be something available in or before 1975. That's not as limiting as it sounds though. Lots of good go fast stuff available back then. In researching ideas I found that Penske's Trans Am team bought Porsche 917 disc brake systems, stamped them with AMC part numbers, and used them for their Javelins. There were no laptops or cell phones or satellite navigation apps, but rally teams had accurate analog navigation systems and CBs worked pretty well for avoiding traffic and Smokey. For my build, I've found that by 1975 German tuners were already switching Audi and Porsche parts into early Golfs to boost handling and performance. 2

You can swap, "print" or make any part from any make or brand of stuff availible in 1975 and use it on your build. And if you want a IRS those swaps are also possible, both the Cobra and the Vette has IRS so just take a C3 suspension for example and you are golden! 3
Keef Posted January 10 Posted January 10 Spent a few hours today working on getting the engine squared away and being able to close the hood. On to the interior next. 4
atomicholiday Posted January 10 Posted January 10 Got a few more parts painted. The vinyl parts of the interior were shot with Krylon satin black. I’m pulling away from spray cans, but I still think this stuff does a good job of representing vinyl. But it takes forever to cure. Still plenty of time left. Once it does finally cure, I’m thinking of trying embossing powder out for carpet. Engine was shot with Scale Finishes Chevy engine orange. It’s snowing out now, and I don’t have plans, so I should get more parts in paint this weekend. Still don’t have an orange picked for the body. I have one coming from Splash that might work. 2
Pat Minarick Posted January 11 Posted January 11 Looks like the only part of the 73 body, and the front and rear bumpers are going to be used. The rest is all from the 71 kit. The 73 hood I have is red plastic and I'm afraid to try painting it white, the 71 hood actually fits and looks better. Couldn't believe how easy this is going together. Using the disc brakes and Dana rear end from the Revell 70 'Cuda. CB antenna will mount using a magnet. 7
53gmc Posted January 11 Posted January 11 Got the chassis built. Tried to make it more interesting adding fuel and brake lines. Exhaust is comprised of solder, wire connectors, and a parts box muffler. Side exit exhaust to copy a 1:1 truck i found online.added a second fuel tank( was a factory option). 5
oldcarfan Posted January 11 Posted January 11 Looks like some good progress is being made. I'm still out with the bug. It's not flu or Covid, so at least that's something. Just started a round of antibiotics. I checked the paint on my entry and it's dried enough that I managed to get it polished to a decent level. 1
Wagonmaster110 Posted January 12 Posted January 12 Looks like a lot of progress is being made. By every competitor. Tim 1
bill_67 Posted January 12 Posted January 12 Alot of great ideas and builds already this year, I haven't made a lot of progress with mine yet mire planning than anything. I have removed bumper from grille an headlight and flush mounted the bumper. Removed the center grill and installed a mesh. I getting a Bentley vibe from this car 3
Beans Posted January 12 Posted January 12 Everybody is cruising right along.... Still waiting on some aftermarket parts to come in the mail but I got most of the engine done. Thought about an engine swap but that Grand sport engine looks too good. 5

MeatMan Posted January 12 Posted January 12 (edited) I had planned on getting an early start to my entry for this year but my basement is unusually cold during this year. I did get the body stripped, however. I've decided not to paint it blue, though. I've had bad results with two builds in blue so I'll change it up. I know its me but, you know. I might have to go back to when I didn't have a workshop and work in the dining room. Edited January 12 by MeatMan 2
Keef Posted January 12 Posted January 12 Got some work done on mine today. Got the interior mocked up and ready for paint. Body is ready for primer once I get a day above freezing ( spray cans and outside painting). Chassis is done and ready for primer and paint. Moving right along! 7

I’m doing something similar to this for my garage diorama, can’t have a shop without a shop truck 🤣😂 4
Mattilacken Posted January 12 Author Posted January 12 I have gotten the Cuda in a dark gray base coat so I can spray some blue on that. I’m idea is to paint it dark blue like the Gurney Cudas from ’70. The engine is also taking shape. If I forgot to mention but the engine is a revell piece from some much newer kit than the Cuda. 3
Sam I Am Posted January 12 Posted January 12 I sorted out my missing engine parts, and main body color is sprayed. I figure if your trying to fly below the radar, go fast colors might not be a good idea, so I went with a more subdued semi gloss color I had. 6

atomicholiday Posted January 12 Posted January 12 Well yesterday didn’t work out for bench time. Went after groceries and came out to a flat tire. I picked up a 1/2” wide spike somewhere. Not repairable. I was due for tires anyway but didn’t really want to do it that way. So groceries ended up costing me $1500 more than normal, and shot the whole afternoon. Today however…. Got a bunch more parts in black primer. Also did a little body work. 2

Kromolly Posted January 13 Posted January 13 I said earlier I would try, and I was able to get a '70 Torino GT kit so that will now be my primary kit for my build. I will also be using some parts from the Torino Cobra kit I provided a picture of earlier, in order to replicate my 1:1 Torino GT. 3
Pat Minarick Posted January 13 Posted January 13 Well i thought I was gone, I've been on here since 2012 and last night getting on said I was banned. Had to allow third party cookies and reset my account. Have no idea what that was all about. Anyway I have opening self locking deck lid and trunk framing started. 2
