White Rabbit Posted December 24, 2024 Posted December 24, 2024 After a lot of back-and-forth between possible entries, I've finally decided to go with a 1971 Renault Alpine A110. I just placed an order for the kit, so I'll post photos when it arrives (below is just a stock photo). The idea is to de-rallyfy the car back into a street-legal configuration. There're also some transkits that add a full trunk, working hinges, etc., that I'm looking into. 3

MeatMan Posted December 24, 2024 Posted December 24, 2024 Here's my official entry. 1975 Monza 2+2 I started for the 2023 CBR but ran into probs. Its a started build but I still have a long way to go. The paint was rough so I tried to smooth it and wound up sanding a lot of it off. I swapped the V8 for a Cosworth Vega engine. I had added a serpentine belt assembly and a turbo but serpentine belts weren't around in 1975 so I'm going back to the stock belt setup and dropping the turbo for dual Webers because I have ITB injectors on the turbo setup. The wheels and tires are set but I'm thinking about going traditional with the gold centers and chrome rims. I did very little on the interior except open up the side panels to fit the larger wheel wells, and cut out the tranny tunnel which now probably wasn't necessary because I'm not using a modern tranny. Oh yeah, the hood isn't shown because I have it in the purple pond because I had a turbo hump on it and need to replace it with one from the period. 5
slusher Posted December 25, 2024 Posted December 25, 2024 My car from last cannonball I never finished .. I would like to enter it in 25 cannonball if accepted.. 4
Sam I Am Posted December 25, 2024 Posted December 25, 2024 I've always wanted to build this kit. I may toy with adding the roll cage and period correct nascar wheels and tires as well...if I can stuff them under without too much trouble. Hopefully I have a better model building track record in 2025 than this year. 4
atomicholiday Posted December 25, 2024 Posted December 25, 2024 Wow, 12 entries already! And you guys are picking some great subjects. This should be an awesome race this year! Merry Christmas guys!
tooltime-fan Posted December 25, 2024 Posted December 25, 2024 My entry for the next Run: Lamborghini Espada Box Stock.... I Hope Good luck to everyone and merry Christmas 5
slusher Posted December 26, 2024 Posted December 26, 2024 is the head lights on the car good enough or do we have to add lights?

It’s up to you as long as it has some thing and not only stickers. If it has “folded down” lights like a street Daytona or Vette it must be good enough. and btw al previous CBR builds are always welcome!😎 Edited December 26, 2024 by Mattilacken 2
JimmyRiggins Posted December 26, 2024 Posted December 26, 2024 (edited) Here’s one that would be really cool to see on the run! https://primotipo.com/2019/10/07/bmw-1602-repco-v8/ Edited December 26, 2024 by JimmyRiggins
KWT Posted December 26, 2024 Posted December 26, 2024 Seeing as how I didn't even open this last time... and I've entered it into another build off... I'm going to jump back in with this Surely that'll entice me to knock this one out now. 6
Beans Posted December 26, 2024 Posted December 26, 2024 I'm in...what to build...I have a couple ideas but not sure which one I am going with yet. Will settle on one pretty quick and post it. 1
oldcarfan Posted December 26, 2024 Posted December 26, 2024 (edited) I've picked my contender for this year. I plan to enter a first generation Volkswagen Rabbit/Golf. The car just barely squeezes under the wire, having been introduced in March 1974 as a 1975 model. The base kit will probably be an ESCI Rally Golf. I have this kit along with the AMT and Revell versions and also an AMT Scirocco so I should have enough parts hopefully to make an interesting entry. Edit: I just went out and opened the boxes to see what needs to be done for my entry. You all may know this, but it was a surprise to me. The ESCI kit and the AMT kit are the same except that the AMT version's parts trees were cut down to fit the smaller box. The racing parts for the ESCI kit seem to be missing from the AMT kit as well. Guess they wre trimmed off in the molding process. Also, the AMT kit has a lot of flash whereas the ESCI kit was molded in the 70s-80s so it's a lot cleaner. In comparison, the Revell kit looks like a much newer tool and offers both the left and right hand dashes. Edited December 26, 2024 by oldcarfan 2

I'm glad to know that it's a good kit. I've been wanting to build it since I saw the detail-up kits by USCP. Now, I just need to decide on the color... Do you have a link to your Alpine build? It would be great to see it.

As you'll see, the only issue was the trunk where I didn't allow for paint thickness. The decals were from Spot Model. https://public.fotki.com/Urban-Poet/denin-alpine-model/

I like the yellow; it suits the car well. Thank you for the tip on the trunk. 1
blue303 Posted December 28, 2024 Posted December 28, 2024 I am going to build a 60 Ford Starliner. Hopefully if I start in January, I will get it finished before the deadline. 2

It’s the very first kit I ever built at 12 years old. I’ve been looking for one to build now 41 years later. I’ll definitely be watching this one progress!! 😍 1
xbazzarex Posted December 29, 2024 Posted December 29, 2024 Alright im going to actually finish my entry this year. Ill be going with the Shelby G.T. 350R. may need to add a few creature comforts to the kit to make it a more realistic car for a long drive like this. 3
Spottedlaurel Posted December 29, 2024 Posted December 29, 2024 Still pondering my entry for this one, all three of my completed CBR entries have been Japanese and I'd like to use this as an excuse to build something American this time around. As a base vehicle I'm favouring the AMT '70 Ford sedan, but wondering about a suitably hi-po period engine option. It'd have to be from the Ford stable as I don't like mixing makes, and presumably a big block? I have only a limited choice in my stash, the '69 Cougar CJ428 comes to mind, maybe with a different intake/filter set-up? While I'm off work for the next few days I'll have a play then declare my entry. Could end up being something entirely different..... 1

If you're talking a out the 4 door Galaxie the kit has a Boss 429 engine in it. While incorrect for a stock version it would be a worthy swap to get the big Ford down the road. The 428 you have would be a potential period mod to an original small block car and keep it in the Ford family. I almost picked this kit for my build, it would make a good Cannonball car. 1 1

Thank you Brian, so it has a decent basic engine already included? That makes life easier! It has the added bonus for me of being a birth year build, picking up on a previous CBR theme which I never managed to complete (or really start). Not yet decided, will see what else takes my fancy over the next few days.....
bill_67 Posted December 29, 2024 Posted December 29, 2024 I would like to enter this year's cannonball it'll be my tenth anniversary since I finished one. Don't have much of model car stash so I'm going with this 1973 mercury cougar (the cat) 2
