Steve H Posted March 5 Author Posted March 5 This one of Plowboy’s I liked for several reasons. First, who thought a Taurus could possibly look this cool. I also really liked it because I built a 41 Chev truck in almost the exact same colour, and as I recall my truck actually inspired him to use this colour. My 41 Chev… Hmmmmm…. I think I should get some new photos of this outside in my parking lot. Thanks to all that are following along here, and reviving some of Roger’s amazing builds. I’ve got a couple more I’ll share later if no one beats me to it. 5
BK9300 Posted March 5 Posted March 5 (edited) Really enjoying your current, tribute build, Steve. Also think your ‘41 is pretty special, too! Do you have a build thread for it you could link us to? New pics of it in your parking lot would be stunning. Edited March 5 by BK9300

It was built before I joined the forum, and before I did any in progress photos of my builds. It’s posted “under glass” here somewhere, but stay tuned, I think I’ll be cheeky and get some fresh/better photos and bump the thread. 1
Steve H Posted March 10 Author Posted March 10 Ok, let’s try this for a fifth time…. I’ll try to keep this very short. This is the post I have really been looking forward to posting. Got the final coat of pearl white, and one coat of pearl clear on the truck. Then it was decal time! Custom decals I had made by STS decals last year, modified to accommodate this build. (Something I had planned when I ordered the decals) The “1968” is my birth year, Roger was born in 66, so that needed to be addressed… I’m extremely pleased to finally see the decals on this truck, something I’ve had in my head for 2 years. The STS decals lay down very nicely, highly recommend them. This is my 5th time trying to post this, very frustrating. As always, thanks for having a look. 11
Steve H Posted March 10 Author Posted March 10 I have been doing a LOT of masking, painting… more masking, painting… more…ya, I definitely broke the budget on masking tape. One of the reasons I posted the link to Plowboy’s Taurus build, was to show the colour. When I started this build, I really wanted to tie that colour in somewhere, as it was a colour Roger and I had both used. I decided on using it for the FORD letters on the tailgate. Painted in metallic red, which will get matte clear along with the rest of the truck. Not super happy with how they turned out, but also not terrible. I will do a bit of clean up on them before clear. Most of the interior is now painted, I need to do a bit more work on those parts before an update. There has been some progress… 6
BK9300 Posted March 10 Posted March 10 I like how the decals laid out, too - the carrier film isn't noticeable. Had you cleared over the decals at time of taking your photos or are you going to leave them as is? Looking very good!
JollySipper Posted March 10 Posted March 10 Very cool idea with the decals........... This all looks great!

So my first several attempts at the last post had more info on the decals and such, but I had to cut it wayyyyyy short to be able to post. Obviously still some issues on the board. The decals are fantastic! The carrier film is very thin, and crystal clear, but they seem quite “strong”. I played with them a bit, and no issues with tearing. So in those photos they have not been cleared, just a small amount of micro set. I will be clearing over them with matte clear. 23 hours ago, slusher said: Beautiful work Steve! Thank you Carl. It is definitely taking shape now. 11 hours ago, TopherMcGinnis said: Simply AWESOME Thanks Topher 11 hours ago, JollySipper said: Very cool idea with the decals........... This all looks great! I’m glad you approve TJ. Like I mentioned, I had this build in mind when I ordered the decals and was hoping I would be able to modify them successfully. The quality of the decals made it easy to pull off. Super pleased with how they look. Thank you all for having a look, and taking the time to share your thoughts. I’m really enjoying this build, and excited to get it finished. Hoping for another update soon on the interior.
Steve H Posted March 15 Author Posted March 15 Interior in progress… The door cards were modified a bit to add some depth. I obviously was not aiming to replicate a stock interior in any way. Used photo etch for window crank and door handle, added a “knob” on the window crank. Decided to use the piston logo on the interior as well. Shifter is a bent shirt pin with a styrene knob. The cup holders are boot lace ferrules. The dash still needs some work as you can see, but it’s coming along. I have a few touch ups to do, seat belts will be added, the pedals are ready to install, and photo etch speakers added to the doors, on the dash I made my own tweeters using some mesh and gauge bezels. Better photos of those later… Thanks for having a look! 7 1
Steve H Posted March 15 Author Posted March 15 Oops… forgot to add one photo It is now officially Roger’s truck…. The truck has been cleared now with matte clear. I will share a photo in the sun when the sun appears again… The paint looks kinda blah here, but it has a nice shimmer to it in sun. 8 3
David G. Posted March 15 Posted March 15 Fabulous looking interior Steve! I especially like the dash configuration and the gauges. The decals are awesome! I think Roger would be flattered and suitably impressed. David G.
AmericanMuscleFan Posted March 15 Posted March 15 You are the best with interiors Steve, they are always clean, well put together, whatever your color choices, it is always tasteful and out of the ordinary! 👌
Steve H Posted March 16 Author Posted March 16 10 hours ago, BK9300 said: Very rich looking interior, Steve! (love the shifter, too) Thanks Brian. Kit shifters are almost always out of scale, so trying to improve upon that. 10 hours ago, David G. said: Fabulous looking interior Steve! I especially like the dash configuration and the gauges. I feel like Roger would have liked this build, not sure he’d have been impressed tho. 3 hours ago, AmericanMuscleFan said: You are the best with interiors Steve, they are always clean, well put together, whatever your color choices, it is always tasteful and out of the ordinary! 👌 Hello Francis! Nice to have you following along sir. Trying to improve on my interiors. This isn’t my best work, but I am satisfied with how it looks. I do think it was one of my better embossing powder carpet jobs though.
Steve H Posted March 16 Author Posted March 16 Interior complete! Well… I MIGHT add interior door locks. For the dash, I used pin heads for the “knobs”, they were scuffed with a sanding cloth to knock a bit of the shine off. Added a water bottle for interest, keys with “Ford” keychain in the ignition. I know that the ignition was located on the dash, not the column from the factory. Clock in the centre of the dash, a pin for the glove box “button”, and you can now see the dash mount tweeters a bit better. Seat belts also added, and the turn signal lever, which is a pin with some wire insulation. Hoping to get some chassis work done tomorrow. Also aiming to get some of the trim attached to the body. I really appreciate hearing from those of you following along. It has been very rewarding finally, actually building this thing! It’s been rattling around my brain for 2 years. 4
NOBLNG Posted March 16 Posted March 16 The interior and dash look fabulous Steve! Where do you get the tiny little keys, keychain and water bottle from?🙂 1
johnyrotten Posted March 16 Posted March 16 Fantastic work on the interior. Very clean work. Awesome color, and the decal finishes it perfectly. 👍 👍

The water bottle is from Meng. I got a set of multiple bottles in different scales many years ago, not sure of availability now. 2
