JollySipper Posted February 9 Posted February 9 Hello, guys! I recently got this kit through trading with another member....... It looks to be quite the kit! Kinda what I imagine a Fujimi EM model kit of this subject would look like. All the doors open, as does the hood.... Gonna build this completely stock! It has a couple of speed parts, but I don't plan to even use those.... Color scheme will be a gray hood and cowl with black fenders, and maybe ivory wheels. Here's the box art........... Right now I'm just trimming flash and such from some parts, not really much to show yet......... Anyway, I think this will be a neat little build to add to my collection! If anyone has built this kit, please show some pics! I don't think I've seen many of these built..... 9
NOBLNG Posted February 9 Posted February 9 I’ll follow along TJ. I have a couple of ‘31 Sedan kits with the opening hood and doors. I’m working on one now but am not using the hood and since I chopped it I gave up on hoping to get the doors working and glued them shut. Interested to see how it turns out.😎 1
slusher Posted February 13 Posted February 13 (edited) I have the 29 AMT version to build but I always follow your buildsTJ! Edited February 14 by slusher Typo

Wouldn't be the same without ya'........... I have made some progress on this! The basic engine and transmission are primed and ready for their flat green paint.... Also, I've been working on the frame and suspension bits. You can see the translucent plastic that was under the chrome......... Neither suspension is in place right now, just mocked up for the pic. That's where I'm at today, hopefully more progress in a few days.......... 5
Bullybeef Posted February 14 Posted February 14 I have this kit in the stash on standby for a 32 station wagon conversion if my first attempt fails! I have built the 31 sedan and managed to get the opening doors working well. It only takes patience and a reworking of the door handles to make them functional( I didn’t do that) I’ll see if I can find the source pics I found for the working handles. 1
mchook Posted February 14 Posted February 14 I've never built this complete kit, but I've used the engine a lot and it can be detailed real nice. The chassis is nice too but the front end parts can be fragile. 10 1
JollySipper Posted February 15 Author Posted February 15 Just a little more progress, fellas........ The frame was primed and painted, and once that dried I dry-brushed a bit of silver all over it. Also got the basic engine painted! I'm having to kinda hold off on putting the front suspension together, as I'm missing the little metal spindle posts that hold on the front wheels........ Also I am in need of the long metal axle for the rear. Does anyone have these that they might not need? Here's a pic of the part for the front wheels....... Anyways, that's what I have done today....... 1

Don’t know if that matters to you? They would still steer. 2

Pierre Rivard Posted February 15 Posted February 15 I really like the color scheme you are planning for this beauty. Do these kits have any sort of woodgrain decals or is this something you will have to achieve with paint effects?
JollySipper Posted February 15 Author Posted February 15 Thanks for the advice, guys....... Most likely I'll just use a scrap piece of sprue or something to mount the wheels......... 52 minutes ago, Pierre Rivard said: I really like the color scheme you are planning for this beauty. More than likely I won't use them though........ 1
customline Posted February 15 Posted February 15 (edited) If I wanted it to roll, I'd head to the garage and find something in my extensive nail collection, TJ. You never know. 🙂. I may have those rivets, I saw them not a week ago while looking for something else. I'll check when I get home later and get back to you if you like. Edited February 15 by customline
JollySipper Posted February 16 Author Posted February 16 9 hours ago, slusher said: Hope you find one for him Jim.. Guys, I have found a plastic axle from an old AMT kit, maybe the Gas Man '49 Ford? Anyways, progress is being made, hopefully I can post what I have done later today! I was just wanting to build this with all it's original pieces....... 1
JollySipper Posted February 19 Author Posted February 19 More progress on the chassis! There's still a few small parts to go, but I kinda needed to mount the engine to make it easier to handle...... I've already made a couple mistakes, I'll just have to try to catch things early enough to fix them....... 6

I like the complexity and simplicity of the suspension components on these 20’s model A’s (makes me think about getting back to mine)
JollySipper Posted February 23 Author Posted February 23 Skipping around a bit, I've primed and painted the seats...... Still need to paint the legs gloss black. This is my first time using Krylon 'short cuts', and I was pretty impressed with how easy it is to work with.......... The color is called 'Espresso'. 3
stavanzer Posted February 23 Posted February 23 I have that kit. I've started the engine, but I have not gotten any further. Very Delicate tooling, that's for sure.

Bugatti Fan Posted February 23 Posted February 23 I like to see builds of stock older vehicles that have not been rodded or customised. This is a good build to have followed this far, and will be seeing how this model develops.
JollySipper Posted February 25 Author Posted February 25 Spent the last couple days getting these parts in paint....... There is a pin missing from one of the cowl hinges, I'll have to repair that. The paint is Rustoleum gloss gray, but to me on the screen it looks a little purple? 3

JollySipper Posted March 4 Author Posted March 4 More progress! Got the fender unit painted and a decent start on the wheel/tire combo...... I decided on green for the wheels, figuring that is a period-correct color for this. The green is another 'short cuts' Krylon color..... The fenders are Rustoleum flat black primer with two coats of their high gloss black...... 4
