MarkJ Posted April 15 Posted April 15 Finally finished this one after about a year and a half of trying. Revell 1985 Camaro Z28 kit. I owned a 1984 Camaro Z28 . It was a total dog though, compared to the full race car this model represents. This car was actually built much like the Nascar cup cars of that year including a Banjo chassis. I tried to duplicate it as much as I could with lots of extra styrene strips tubes and sheets. I did a lot of scratch-built items as well. Glad it's finally finished. The picture of the real car is from a YouTube video capture. That is why it's of such terrible quality. I don't know how to do it the right way to avoid the lines and get a clearer image. There are not a lot of photos of the real car out there that I could find. 5
MarkJ Posted April 15 Author Posted April 15 I posted the wrong first picture above, figures. This one looks better. 4
bbowser Posted April 16 Posted April 16 All your hard work really paid off, that's a great replica! I followed the WIP and enjoyed how you overcame the challenges.
BK9300 Posted April 16 Posted April 16 Tremendous job, Mark! You devoted a huge amount of time, dedication and determination to this project and should be rightly proud of the result you have created. Well done! 1
Pierre Rivard Posted April 16 Posted April 16 Well it was a longer than expected journey but the results more then justify it. This replica adds up to a lot more than the sum of it's parts and quite the achievement with perhaps more than 90% of it scratch built the old fashioned way. I know CAD and 3D printing is quickly changing the game with speed and accuracy us old traditional builders can't achieve but there will always be a place for the tradition of making parts one by one... because it's a hobby! Be proud my friend, this replica oozes realism. No matter the method, realism IS the end game. Perhaps we should start the Scratch Builders Society? You have my vote for president. 1
James2 Posted April 16 Posted April 16 That's a great looking model. I really enjoyed watching those series back then. Thanks for sharing it Mark! 1

Thank you, Bruce. I appreciate you following along with the wip . It must have been getting old watching me fumble through it. 13 hours ago, Belugawrx said: That came out great Mark..well done! Your comments are making me feel not worthy of all that praise but it is much appreciated. 1 hour ago, Pierre Rivard said: Well it was a longer than expected journey but the results more then justify it. Thank you, my friend. Your constant strokes of encouragement really helped me along this seeming never ending journey. About scratch building the old way. When you build something that nobody else is interested in, it's the old way or just build a model with no views other than the outside body. I had never done a Terry Labonte car, so I wanted to do more than that. He is one of my favorite drivers for sure. Thanks Pierre. I beg to differ. You should be the president of that society as well as Brush Painting which no one is your equal at. 1 hour ago, James2 said: That's a great looking model. I would even like to do the Porshe that won the very first IROC race and have the kit for it, but it would also take bookoos of work making, so that's on the back burner for now. 1
kensar Posted April 16 Posted April 16 I'm glad to see you finally shoved this one across the finish line. I know there were frustrating times and difficult times, but the whole experience makes every model you build afterward easier, mentally and physically. As was mentioned before, you definitely qualify to be a scratchbuilder (that means we all have higher expectations now 😁). This one has a very good level of detail and the end product looks very sharp. I'm looking forward to seeing what's next!

Or the early Camaro would be a good choice!

I doubt if you will be seeing a lot of scratchbuilding from me in the near future. It's time to be an ooberbuilder . my next one will be a nascar kit that I bought decals for and you will have to find it in the nascar forums. Thanks again for following the wip and giving me a lot of support during the build.
Mattilacken Posted April 17 Posted April 17 Great build mark! All your added details really makes it represent the 1:1!

1959scudetto Posted April 18 Posted April 18 After a long race you finally made it to the finish line, Mark. Though a tough job and certainly often frustrating in having to do some steps several times, you created a very impressive model in the end which you can be proud of.
Funkychiken Posted April 19 Posted April 19 That's really impressive considering it's mostly scratch built. Cool car and build!
