A couple years back I built one of these to look like my good friend’s car. I really liked the way it came out so I decided to build another one. This time I built it as I would do a 68 Chevelle. I lowered it put Zimmerman Magnums on it and homemade exhaust tips. I also made aircraft landing light lenses for the high beams. I painted the groove in the lower molding black like a Chevelle Concours would be done. Just because I like the look of it.

That looks fantastic! My 1st car was a 68 Malibu. I totaled it less than 2 weeks after I got it. I pulled in front of a dark blue car driving at night with his lights off.

Really nice! What paint/finish did you use?

It’s automotive water borne basecoat with 2k clear. The color is Chrysler RPE that I added some coarser pearl to.

Have to agree with everyone else on the paint color and finish. Chevrolet had a color called Danube Blue at that time and would be very close to this. Great looking chrome body trim. Wheels and tires along with a vehicle stance like this go a long way with the overall look.

This is a close match to shadow turquoise.

Looks great, Tim. How does the waterborne paint lay down compared to solvent-based?

Excellent I’d never go back. It takes a little getting used to especially if it’s real humid. Put color control is outstanding.
