In 1962 Chevrolet was preparing for the introduction of the new Sting Ray in the 1963 model year and wanted to draw attention with a racing version. Zora Duntov and his team designed and built 5 racing chassis with Sting Ray style body work. Unfortunately for Zora the American
Automobile Manufacturers Association, including GM, banned manufactures from racing in 1963. Chevrolet went ahead with finishing their racers but made arrangements with trusted Corvette racers including Gulf Oil's vice president for research Grady Davis. The racers were named Grand Sports and the first race for chassis 004 was April 1963 at Maryland's Marlboro Raceway.

This model is based upon 1/25 scale resin body transkit by Cheesecast, Historic Racing Miniature also did one, which could be used on either an MPC or AMT chassis. These transkits were released before Accurate Miniatures released a full kit in 1/24 scale of the 1964 Grand Sport version. This build used an MPC 1964 kit and joins my other Grand Sport Corvettes.
There is a WIP post.

That was my idea, too, to build the earlier version of the Grand Sport. Someday I will since I have enough of the kits and old  stock kit parts.

Will you believe me if I say I love it? :)

Not only a great looking model of the early GS, but also I am very happy to see you back.

Yeah, before all of a sudden engineers took vacations at the same time, packed extra transmission coolers in their luggage and somehow all ended up in the Bahamas at the same time. 🤣

What a coincidence!
