LOBBS Posted August 5 Posted August 5 (edited) I suppose I'm actually the opposite of many in here then 😅. About 4 years ago, when my ex-wife and I split, I thinned out my stash to about half a dozen projects or so. Just the few that I was most passionate about and had a defined plan for. I let the kiddos claim what they wanted and sold off the rest. I just got real with myself about the amount of space I had in the apartment I was moving into and the time that I had to build. 10-20 years ago, I had well over a hundred kits. I'd load up every time Hobby Lobby had a 40-50% off coupon, stalked all the new releases, etc. This is what I'm down to today and even a few of those I'd be willing to part with as my tastes have changed. My LoneStar, '21 Bronco, '32 Ford Roadster WIPs along with the '78 GMC my fiancee and I are building together live in a cabinet in the kitchen since the counter is the best place we have to work currently. We're relocating from KC to STL next month and she's already given me the blessing to claim a space for a dedicated hobby area again in the new house. It'll be good to get that 3D printer that I bought but haven't set up yet up and running in a permanent spot. That's what brought me back into the hobby again in the first place. A few less projects than before but more resources thrown at each. I may be active in the trades and acquisitions market soon enough but still only for those that I have a set vision for. We are on a similar path I have several hundred kits in the pile I want to thin that down to some kind of realistic goal in mind Keeping most of the drag car kits and some late 50s annuals or stock releases I want to build that aren't avail today The rest is going away and Im looking for shows to set up a table at and try to move some of this 1
John M. Posted 7 hours ago Posted 7 hours ago The styrene bug can at times be worse than it's cousin of the gambling variety. I have close to 150 model cars and a large parts stash that I keep organized. Mostly I buy built ones and an occasional rebuilder that I put together with parts from the forementioned stash. I rotate the cars out of the display cases every two weeks.

I have probably triple that (I stopped counting around 250), and there are quite a few here who have stashes of several thousands. It can get scary!
garynygren Posted 6 hours ago Posted 6 hours ago I sold 99% of my collection a few years ago. I kept the few that I knew I was going to build. But just like any addiction something else took its place. For me it was Lego. With the MOC community it was easy to fall down that rabbit hole. Just can't get building things out of my blood. Gary
tbill Posted 6 hours ago Posted 6 hours ago Ya, it’s a thing, haha. I sold off 200 kits and still have over 800, if that wasn’t bad enough, I got into HO scale trains and all of the cool stuff that goes along with that, so, ya, I guess I’m no help🤣
stitchdup Posted 6 hours ago Posted 6 hours ago I sold off most of my 1/25 kits to make space for my first printer, then filled my extra space with prints. If you saw my flat you'd see how the addiction grows. I moved my bed into the front room so i could have a model room and if theres any space it has model stuff in it. i kept one kitchen cupboard for food and one for plates and one for pots. all the rest are model and printing stuff. my wardrobe is now more storage space (its my 15,000 reference magazine stash) I tend to get a bit excessive if something interests me and i go all in on my hobbies.

Let me know when you start paying for a storage room for them. LOL! 🤣

My basement is working out just fine, although as my collection expanded I had to find bunch of nooks and put shelving there to hold more kits.
