Since I was posting this on my 63 Corvette build, I thought I would throw it on here also.  Hopefully the lighting is a little better on this post.  This is another set of headers and the lower trim on the Corvette (brushed on with the original brush after i crammed it back on).

Thanks for posting these trials, Ron. This stuff looks quite promising, for sure.

One thing I will be interested in is seeing how well the stuff lasts in the bottle (shelf life). Only time will tell, of course.

It says 36 months shelf life on the package.

Thanks Ron. Pretty good that they are willing to stand behind it for three years. That sounds better than Molotow, my pens having gone shiny grey after little more than a year.

Does anyone know what will clean a brush?  Just ordered some of this and I'll need to apply it with a very small brush to detail HO slot cars.  Brush in cap is WAY too big.

As I mentioned in one of my previous posts, my brush that I used cleaned up fine with 91% isopropyl alcohol.

One quick note:  After a particularly thick coating on one piece, 2 days later it was still a bit sticky to the touch.  Upon reading the instructions (yeah, I know, it’s always the last thing to do), it recommends putting the clear on after 72 hours.  From now on, I will wait for 3 days drying time if the piece needs to be manhandled.

I just brushed this stuff on a set of headers I needed in a chrome like finish

 

And have to say , It looks amazing. I'll let them sit all weekend then brush on the clear

My bottle(s) came Saturday and I painted a set of valve covrs.  I'll wait a few days before doing the clear coat.  The covers look excellent though.

So far I am liking this stuff

I did a set of headers and so far, so good 

 

 

BUT, once coated . Do not handle them for a few days 

I did the next day and it and it takes the shine off them 

 

Not a big issue for me as the effect is still the same. 

 

All this said,  my impression so far is all good. Would I use it to coat a bumper as an example? No

But builds where you may want a chrome real axle or suspension parts, it would be perfect

Yes, no thinning required. Spray at 15 ibs.

Can you post some pics of the item(s) you airbrushed? I've got a bumper that need to be done and am wondering if airbrushing the bumper would work.

Did you use a gloss black paint as an undercoat?

I would but the chrome is at my buddies house. I won't be able to get it until next Wednesday.

It probably depends on the vehicle being modeled.  Some cars have those items made of aluminum which can be polished or slightly duller. But many American cars from the '50s (the chrome and fins period)  had chromed windscreen moldings. They looked as shiny as other copious chrome pieces on the car.

Some modelers also believe that scaled down chrome should not be as bright as on 1:1 vehicles.  I'm not one of them. I believe the model chrome should be as bright and shiny as on 1:1 vehicles.
