W-31 Posted December 4, 2015 Posted December 4, 2015 Kudos to Revell, they finally hit it out of the ball park! This kit is now one of the best kits they've produced in a long time. My opinion of course!
unclescott58 Posted December 4, 2015 Posted December 4, 2015 Another fun review. I enjoy the extra comments you make as review your kits.
hpiguy Posted December 4, 2015 Posted December 4, 2015 Thanks Scott. I figure why not have a bit of fun, they are only toys.
Art Anderson Posted December 5, 2015 Posted December 5, 2015 I bought one today, and frankly, the decals SUCK big time! What Revell did (dark yellow ochre) on the real car is a bright metallic gold. Shame on Hobbico bean counters for that one!
Edsel-Dan Posted December 7, 2015 Posted December 7, 2015 Surprising since the H/O stripes were actually Gold Metallic on the original issue!!!Glad I have one!!!
Mr Stock Posted December 7, 2015 Posted December 7, 2015 I was pretty sure they were supposed to be gold stripes, but as this photo shows its a very "orangey" gold.
Brett Barrow Posted December 7, 2015 Posted December 7, 2015 (edited) They are reflective, but they certainly aren't sparkly and I don't recall them looking metallic at all but it has been a few years since I've seen one in person. 70's "Harvest Gold" appliance color is sorta how I would describe them from memory. The "500 Festival" and IMS decals are metallic gold, on many pictures you can see the difference between them and the stripes. (I had attached a picture illustrating this, but I removed it as I was unsure if it was an authentic pace car) Edited December 7, 2015 by Brett Barrow
Mike Chernecki Posted December 7, 2015 Posted December 7, 2015 (edited) Stripe description below shows reflective gold for the main stripes. http://www.phoenixgraphix.com/gm/1972ho.phpSure wish it was possible to duplicate reflective stripes in 1/25 scale decals. Olds, Mustangs, Cuda and more had reflective stripes. Edited December 7, 2015 by Mike Chernecki
Sport Suburban Posted December 9, 2015 Posted December 9, 2015 Here is a comparison shot of the decal sheets. Left is Fred Cady, middle is 2009 Hurst issue, and right is 2015 Pace Car issue. I can't tell you which one would be correct because of lighting in reference pictures. I personally like the more gold ones from the 2009 issue. What I find more interesting is that the 2009 kit has 127 parts and is skill level 3, the 2015 reissue has 143 parts and is skill level 5 !! Besides the uptop, hood and grill, I don't see anything else. What is also funny for me is that I am building the resin 72 Olds 442 convertible that I bought from Modelhaus 8 years ago, Plus the W30 upgrade parts. I originally bought it to make the pace car with the Cady decals but it had the wrong grill! Then came the 2009 issue that had everything but the lettering. So I decided to build the Modelhaus kit as a 72 Olds 442 W30 convert. Now this kit has all the parts I need for that car!! I had to buy it!

Brett Barrow Posted December 9, 2015 Posted December 9, 2015 Probably due to the introduction of the build and play series, they re-shuffled the skill grades? Yep, is now a 5-level system, used to be 3. The Build and Play is the new 1The old Skill 1 Snap Kits are the new 2The prepaints are the new 3The old 2 became the new 4 (glue kits up to 120 parts)The old 3 became the new 5 (glue kits over 120 parts)
unclescott58 Posted December 11, 2015 Posted December 11, 2015 (edited) Received mine in the mail today. Have not taken a really close look at it yet. Just opened it up to move the tires out the bag with the body and chassis in it, like Chris mentions in his above video. I can not beleive they though throwing the tires in with the kit like was good idea. But, it was easy enough to take care of. Edited January 10, 2016 by unclescott58
unclescott58 Posted January 10, 2016 Posted January 10, 2016 Interesting that no one has anything more to say about this kit in the last month. I wonder how this is selling? Is there any real interest in kits of cars like this?
hgbben Posted January 10, 2016 Posted January 10, 2016 I was hoping for black stripes in addition to the white ones in the previous release.
Mr mopar Posted January 12, 2016 Posted January 12, 2016 A hard top would have been cool......add part?
socal76 Posted January 13, 2016 Posted January 13, 2016 Kit is worth the regular retail, but I don't know about the extra just for the resin figure. But I would still buy the figure if someone has one they do not want.
Rob Hall Posted January 13, 2016 Posted January 13, 2016 Kit is worth the regular retail, but I don't know about the extra just for the resin figure. But I would still buy the figure if someone has one they do not want.I got it in mainly for the inclusion of both hoods, the uptop, and the 442 grille.
MyBradKeselowski Posted January 13, 2016 Posted January 13, 2016 I still have the first kit unbuilt but I really like this new version of the H/O Cutlass with Linda Vaughn.. I will be building this one the same way as the pic on the box with Linda Vaughn but I'm still trying to figure out how to do the flags for the rear bumper. The ideas I have don't seem like it would look right, any suggestions would be helpful.
Edsel-Dan Posted January 13, 2016 Posted January 13, 2016 I want to say the 69 Camaro Pace car has the Flag Poles you want.I have 1 but would like a few more as Non-Pace Car issues don't have those partsAt least I don't remember seeing them in the one Non-Pace Car kit I have

I have always liked that body style Cutlass. Hope someone comes out with a hard top conversion, fastback or coupe would be fine with me. It truly is one of Revell's best efforts ever, and will be even better once the modified reissue coupe version arrives in 2022. ? I don't have much to add beyond what Ron Hamilton stated, but there are many pictures of the 2010 reissue here: https://modelkitreviews.proboards.com/thread/1624/revell-olds-cutlass-supreme-custom
Bills72sj Posted November 28, 2021 Posted November 28, 2021 Pulling up this thread made me go look at the one in my stash. It seems I have the 2009 version which I hope has the more gold metallic striping. I too am looking forward to the 2 door hardtop when it comes out.
Mr mopar Posted November 28, 2021 Posted November 28, 2021 I was hoping that Revell would bring back this '72 olds kit as a hardtop ! but am looking forwards to the '71 Olds 442 coming 2022 . 1
Katsusauce Posted November 30, 2021 Posted November 30, 2021 Crazy builders like me are doing this..... (current work in progress) 2
