Harry P. Posted February 2, 2011 Posted February 2, 2011 It looks like somebody had it in for Chicago... looks like we are the absolute center of the worst of the snow... http://www.crh.noaa.gov/lot/?n=snow_amt_fcst
Joe Handley Posted February 2, 2011 Posted February 2, 2011 (edited) I'm downloading pictures right now, I ain't getting out of the driveway with out at least a few hours of work Edited February 2, 2011 by Joe Handley
Guest Markus355 Posted February 2, 2011 Posted February 2, 2011 it is now noon in nova scotia. i have been plowing since 3 am. have to go back in for 5 pm as the 2nd half of the storm is about to clean our clocks.
Joe Handley Posted February 2, 2011 Posted February 2, 2011 (edited) Somebody posted this on RCCrawler.com last night.....it's pretty accurate And on to the pics............. Here's our front yard, like I said, I'm going nowhere! and the Neighbor's Dad's Ranger, I had been parked by it when I got home last night and that drift behind it was nearly a foot at 11pm last night when I was finally able to park in the back yard after 11pm Here's the back of my Jeep and my Sister's Charger, keep in mind the bottom of my back bumper is is well over a foot off the ground And a couple more of my back yard, keep in mind that the fence is around 6ft tall or so and that giant pile in the second pic is what Dad put there with the snow blower Edited February 2, 2011 by Joe Handley
Danno Posted February 2, 2011 Posted February 2, 2011 Don't remind me...3 months until summer here..summer is the season I truly hate in Phoenix...about 5 months of triple digit horror. If I hear 'It's a dry heat' one more time...grrrrrr.... Rob, Just for you! Stay cool, dude!
sjordan2 Posted February 2, 2011 Author Posted February 2, 2011 Hey, you don't have to be snowbound. This should get you around.
SuperStockAndy Posted February 2, 2011 Posted February 2, 2011 UH OH. I'm in the "Screwed" part. The counties below me are "Mostly Screwed".
samdiego Posted February 2, 2011 Posted February 2, 2011 (edited) Hey, you don't have to be snowbound. This should get you around. Does that thing really work? Or maybe better, did it work? I've seen a lot of different takes on snow vehicles but this is the first screw type. It doesn't look like it's been used recently. Is snow what it was built for? Edited February 2, 2011 by samdiego
samdiego Posted February 2, 2011 Posted February 2, 2011 (edited) I just would like to point out that the California Board of Tourism requires that we, as residents, extol the virtues of our weather. Personally, I really miss extreme snow and always enjoyed the experience of the Ohio winters. While I realize the severity of the conditions and hope all of you emerge unscathed, I'm wishin I was back in Marion, Ohio for this one. My parents had a thing for country living and our gravel road was the always the last to be plowed. Being cut off for most of a week was never a surprise. If played right and the Gods were willing, it was pretty neat. Edited February 2, 2011 by samdiego

Danno Posted February 2, 2011 Posted February 2, 2011 I miss "snow days." In Colorado, we had occasional free days off due to too much snow. Here in Arizona, you never get a free day off due to too much sunshine.
von Zipper Posted February 2, 2011 Posted February 2, 2011 We got 18 inchs-NOT the worse I've seen by a long shot though, This was my porch this morning--> My wifes truck before and after the clean-up--> All-in-All, We have over 3 ft. on the ground right now--> ( Too deep for regular snowmobiles)
von Zipper Posted February 2, 2011 Posted February 2, 2011 "Lou-Lou the Giant" was cleared off last night, I have the core warmer plugged in-you can see the flaps on the grill are opened-that means the block is warm, usually the heat will keep the snow melted off the hood any way ? -->
charlie8575 Posted February 2, 2011 Posted February 2, 2011 I couldn't get to school yesterday- my windsheild wipers fell apart due to cold, and Monday night, I discovered how bad my car is as it kept overheating on the way back home; what I thought was a bad thermostat turns out to be a bad radiator. The weather yesterday morning was creating enough trouble that I just turned back- I was about halfway there, but I couldn't do it. Car aside, all the main roads were stopped solid in both directions. I shoveled out after it stopped snowing, as was done in about an hour. This morning, Dad stayed home and we just had at it. Took about an hour and forty-five minutes for about half as much snow due to the weight from the water. We have literally run out of places to put it. Our neighbor came by and punched out the end of the driveway as best he could- when he runs out of room to plow the snow, you know it's bad. And now....more for next week? BLECH! Charlie Larkin
Dan Helferich Posted February 2, 2011 Posted February 2, 2011 I've got my driveway almost done. It doesn't mean much since our street hasn't been plowed, but I'll be ready to shovel out the mountain of snow after they pass. I haven't been in a storm like this since I left Grand Rapids in '92. I was much younger then!
Foxer Posted February 2, 2011 Posted February 2, 2011 We only got maybe 6" and some sleet in Western Massachusetts. Most of the snow must have fallen out in Chicago.
Danno Posted February 2, 2011 Posted February 2, 2011 All kidding aside, we're actually feeling a little (I said, a little) of your pain. Our high temperature today is expected to be no more than 45 degrees. Now guys, before you start hooting ... that is COLD for the daytime in Phoenix! Everything is relative. At least we don't have any snow to shovel, and the only thing obstructing our streets is an accumulation of Snowbirds. Good luck with the storm.
Guest Markus355 Posted February 2, 2011 Posted February 2, 2011 apparently not going in for 5...its now 5 and still snowing like a corksoaker. Send beer.
Brokentail58 Posted February 2, 2011 Posted February 2, 2011 Woke up to over 16" of snow in my driveway. I was going to drive the wife to work and then to my job but both had to call in . Took my son and I about 3 hours of shoveling to finally clear the driveway. The only problem is they have yet to plow and when they do the end of my drive will be worse than it was this morning. I used up all my energy shoveling and don't even want to work on any projects now. I need a beer and a nap.
afxmustang Posted February 2, 2011 Posted February 2, 2011 We didn't get as much in the Detroit area as they had predicted.Something about the path changed and there was a bit of a dry spot as it went thru here. I think it topped out at about 9 inches around here. Still I had some 18 inch drifts in the drive due to the wind.I live on a dead end block and I was surprised to wake up this morning to find that my street had already been plowed.
diymirage Posted February 2, 2011 Posted February 2, 2011 well, i woke up to about 20 inches of fresh snow this morning (with drifts up to 4 foot tall) i got up at 4.30 to clean the driveway, got that done by about 5.15 i cleared a path to back the cars out and then i figured id run my passat in the track the wifey would make with the charger no dice, the charger got about 5 foot and by then it had rode up on the fresh snow and lifted all 4 wheels of the ground so i dug her back out and told her to call in a snow day then i put on my hunting clothes and started my 3 mile walk to work made it about 3/4 of the way there when a coworker picked me and let me drive the rest of the way in the bed of his truck
samdiego Posted February 2, 2011 Posted February 2, 2011 (edited) Yup, it's a Fordson Snow Tractor. Check this out... http://www.flixxy.com/snow-vehicle-concept.htm Is that one yours? Why didn't that turn out to be a good idea? I thought the Chevy bodied ride was pretty cool Edited February 2, 2011 by samdiego
Harry P. Posted February 2, 2011 Posted February 2, 2011 Here's what 22" of snow looks like... This is Lake Shore Drive looking south during the morning rush hour (Lake Michigan is on the left). If you look closely you'll see how remarkably light the traffic is... in fact you'll notice there are no cars! That's because they shut down LSD yesterday and I think it's still closed now.
diymirage Posted February 2, 2011 Posted February 2, 2011 looks nice harry i was listening to moody radio doing a live broadcast from foundersweek and the speaker was commenting on how ample parking was today
Chuck Most Posted February 2, 2011 Posted February 2, 2011 Didn't turn out to be the hellbender they were talking about up here in central Michigan. Yeah, it was pretty bad, but I've seen worse! Still had a few waist deep drifts, though.
