customsrus Posted March 2, 2011 Posted March 2, 2011 (edited) Seen this in the current issue in Model Cars Magazine thought I would try my luck at building it. Hopefully the artist does't mind. Took a 64 chevy truck sectioned it two places, cut the top off, replaced with 59 elcamino top, cut out front and rear bumper areas (hopefully it looks like the concept).Parts box wheels. Tires are from the 64 chevy. Still working on the inside of the bed. Here is the original artwork. And the model Edited February 25, 2014 by customsrus
Danno Posted March 2, 2011 Posted March 2, 2011 I doubt the artist would mind that you're building a model based on his illustration. I think that's the whole point of the feature in MCM ... inspiration. Good luck ~ looks like you're off to a good start.
David G. Posted March 2, 2011 Posted March 2, 2011 Looks like most of the hard work is done... now, on to the difficult work! So far, so good! David G.

MikeMc Posted March 4, 2011 Posted March 4, 2011 Sectioning is one of the hardest to pull off.....looks dead on!! Well done!!
Lunajammer Posted March 5, 2011 Posted March 5, 2011 I'm a big fan of Brad Leisure's work. I love to see his offerings built up and I don't think you've missed a hitch. Don't lose your steam on this one, we need to see it in all its finished glory.
customsrus Posted March 9, 2011 Author Posted March 9, 2011 Got a little progress done so I thought I would share it with you. Modified the grill opening added two pieces of plastic to extent it out. Also modified the 59 elcamino chassis. had to make it shorter by about 1/4 inch to fit the wheelbase.added plastic where needed.
customsrus Posted March 9, 2011 Author Posted March 9, 2011 Oh no I'm not done yet!!. Made a new interior tub using pieces from both models (59 elcamino and 64 chev truck),and added pieces of plastic sheet where needed.Made new fender wells and roughed in the bed.
customsrus Posted March 9, 2011 Author Posted March 9, 2011 This is where it sits now,I could not use the chevy truck frame(sit way to high). The tires and wheels are just being used for mock up, I will be putting the wide whites back on.
jeff ewaskey Posted March 9, 2011 Posted March 9, 2011 Man that is lookin way cool!!!! I really liked that concept drawing when I saw it & looks like you really are doing it justice. Keep up the great work she is lookin good.

customsrus Posted April 2, 2011 Author Posted April 2, 2011 finally got to do a little work on the truck.I started working on the front and rear grilles the one on the top in the picture is the rear.I also sectioned the radiator out of the chevy truck to fit. I also made a battery box in the fender well, And made my hood hinges out of brass, I will add inner struture to to hood. And last I do not like the molded in front a arms on the 59 elco frame, so I use my dremel to cut away the unwanted plastic. I still have to clean up the front end but this is how it looks after a little tlc. Before After
