Probably should have posted this her instead, so, sorry for the double-dip:

Revell could simply straight reissue these and rake in the money:

  • 1/25 '68 Pontiac Firebird
  • 1/25 '67 Camaro
  • 1/25 '77 Monte Carlo Snap
  • 1/25 '49 Mercury Woodie Wagon
  • 1/25 '41 Willys, race/gasser version
  • 1/25 '60 Chevy Impala Hardtop
  • 1/25 '99 Chevy Pickup
  • 1/25 '57 Ford Sedan Gasser
  • 1/25 '70 Plymouth HEMI Cuda
  • 1/24 '70 Plymouth Road Runner
  • 1/24 '55 Chevy Street Machine

Some Round2 reissues:

  • 1/16 '55 Chevy Bel Air Hardtop
  • 1/16 '57 Chevy Bel Air Hardtop
  • 1/16 '57 Nomad
  • 1/16 '63 Corvette
  • AMT '63 Pontiac Tempest AWB
  • MPC Open Road slide-in Camper
  • AMT '64 Mercury Comet Caliente
  • MPC '84 Toyota Supra
  • IMC Touch Tone Terror Dodge A-10 Pickup

I agree with you.  When was the 60 Chevrolet Impala last issued? Does the tooling still exist?

Posted (edited)

My list stays basically the same. 1. Revell Baja Husky motorcycle.

2. Revell 1/16 Off road Chevy pickup with dirtbike.

3. Monogram 1/24, 2nd generation Blazer. Maybe with updated graphics.

4. AMT 2nd generation. Bronco (witch is expected this spring).

5. That '74 or '75 Ford longbed pickup (whoever made that one)

This kit is the AMT Superstones kit that been out for a long time. The early 74-75 grille got retooled into the 78 grille but there are folks who resin cast the early one.

I know about the Rookie resin one. But the owner seems to have shut down the operation a wile ago. The grill I found d on ebay is a little iffy. I have 2 of those Firestone kits waiting to see if I can find an aftermarket '73,'74 grill if they ever make them again.  I even have an add in the wanted section with 0 responses so far. I do see the vintage kit on ebay from time to time bit as you can imagine  the price is in the stratosphere. I would add to the list that they should keep pumping out versions of the first Gen. Broncos (even though I'm more a fan of the 2nd gen) simply because they.are so popular right now. I don't see people getting sick of them anytime soon. This would be good for the whole hobby.

The '60 Impala was initially released in 1998 by Revellogram. It was last issued in 2009 as part of the Revell California Wheels series. Why would you think that Revell got rid of the tooling?

Check with Kris Morgan at M.A.D., I've heard he casts those grilles but doesn't list them on his site. He also does a correct, non Camper Special long bed.

I agree, with some amendments:

1.) Demolish the tooling for those horrible Rallye GT tyres for the custom option. Melt-down the tooling -- whatever it takes.

2.) Updated engine options (a simple single four barrel intake vs. that darling of the seventies turbo bollocks; nice set of headers-- nothing too fancy)

3.) Updated / revised optional custom wheels (Cragar S/ST's are bland; and the 4-slot 'kidney cut' wheels are just no-no)

The '63 Split Window would be nice to have again. Ditch the 1980's livery --including the wheels-- and add back the 60's - 70's options.

Yes, yes, yes... ad infinitum to the Supra (and/or Celica). And, um, *cough* new tyres *cough*.

Now, I wonder if Round2 could possible retool / new tool the AMT Chevy Van to its origins with the optional sidelights and opening hood? It's been done with the Olds Convertible, the '63 Nova Wagon, and the 4-4-2 Hardtop -- that classic van with a full complement of options (including their iteration of the 'Open Road' et al. camper top) would sell L.A.M.F.

I wouldn't mind the A-Team van version, even without the BA Baracus figure, but I'll take either.

Thanks but all I could find was a round headlight 1978 grill. Rookie is still the only one who makes a '73, '74 grill.

Brian said that he thought Kris made them but they aren't on the site. I don't know if that is true or not, but it would be worthwhile to send Kris a message.

3. Whoever made the best 1/24 or 1/25 2nd generation Blazer.

"Best" is always relative, but the three main options are:

  1. 1/24 Monogram kit, which I believe has been irreversibly modified into the Pulldozer version
  2. 1/25 Revell Snap-Together kit...not great
  3. 1/25 MPC Snap kit-- better, nice body, but would need to be combined with full-detail kit underpinnings

Info on each in the Trucks: Kit Reviews section.

I've seen the box art for some of those Monogram kits but I can't remember seeing a completed one. Any chance we would see one of those reissued ? That would be nice.

Not sure. Depends upon what remains and what state it is in. More here:

I think this is the one I'm thinking of. Get some sportier mirrors and this would be a huge reissue. I wonder if they could borrow the mirrors from the deserter pickup? I have and earlier version of that one from Monogram.

I have a Pulldozer. I don't think it would take much to bring it back to stock.

Biggest major missing parts are the hood, front bumper, the stock front and rear seats and, most importantly - the roof cap. Suspension is pretty much stock with lifts to raise the suspension and inner wheel mods for the Ground Hawg tires. May need the intake, air cleaner and exhaust. Except for the cap and maybe the seats, most of this stuff can be sourced from the other pickup kits.

Problem is, does the new management at Revell care enough about this kind of market to do the repairs? I have my doubts.

Maybe they should just sell more oddball tooling to Atlantis, so it can be in the hands of somebody who does care enough!

Touch Tone Terror would be a nice kit to see, but Round 2 would have to take a gamble retooling the booth and the other accessories as I doubt any of it still exists. And how many of the younger generation would even know what a telephone booth is? The Dodge A100 pickup molded in white would be most welcomed, though.

Has anyone actually built the telephone booth from this kit, being mostly all clear parts, it looks challenging to me.  I'm wondering if those parts are worth bringing back? The utility rack still exists and could easily be added back to make the telephone truck.  Thoughts....

I have never seen the phone booth in person, always found the kit but the booth was missing. It would be nice to have it for dioramas or for the sake of the kits originality

I Vote bring it back!

My list remains unchanged, except for the Bronco that's out now and the Ford pickup that Texas 3D customs now offers the '73 grill for.

My Reissue wishes have been mentioned already but I just want to re-iterate in case anyone from revell or AMT/MPC is watching :)

monogram 1/8th cars - the vettes, the Trans Ams and the Camaro

MPC Volare , monza, vega

Dodge Van with a correct grille

and the MPC 1/16th scale cars like the 80s trans am, the 79ish trans am, and others I can not recall at the moment

I would welcome 70s subjects that we have not had for a while

I wrote this 11 years ago .. and I got most of what I hoped for, and others which I had wished for in the years since writing this. I guess if you wait long enough, and the tooling exists, it will eventually return.

TX3D Customs makes a 73-75 Ford truck grille.
