charlie8575 Posted June 13, 2012 Posted June 13, 2012 I like the basic idea, Harry. It might make it easier for all of us. Charlie Larkin
Harry P. Posted June 13, 2012 Author Posted June 13, 2012 Honestly, I don't see the point in having seperate "under glass" categories. Very simple. It makes it easier for people to find what they are interested in. It's like the library analogy I always make... you can put all the books on the shelves in random order, because they're all books. But if you're interested in a particular book, good luck finding it! Same idea with the separate "Under Glass" categories. It just makes it easier to find stuff, because you know up front where to look.
W-409 Posted June 13, 2012 Posted June 13, 2012 (edited) I would say that keep it as it is right now. Drag Racing Models section is the best section of this forum and it's easiest to find reference, or ask reference for Drag Racing Cars. Same thing with NASCAR, if there's only one General place where to ask reference, those topics can be easy to miss, since there are very much of them. I really like the way it is right now, but just point out, that Drag Racing Models need to be posted into Drag Racing Models section, and NASCAR models into NASCARS section. And those threads can be moved from Under Glass to right sections, if someone still doesn't understand and posts those still in Under Glass? Or is moving topics tricky? I don't know which one I should vote, but this is my opinion. If It Aint Broke, Don't Fix It. EDIT: But if you're gonna do those changes, how about Large Scale Models in the Big Boys section, or Diecast Models? They have still own sections, just like Drag Cars and NASCARS. I think it's more simple when there are seperate Drag Racing and NASCAR sections. Edited June 13, 2012 by W-409
GrandpaMcGurk Posted June 13, 2012 Posted June 13, 2012 Harry, for what my opinion is worth, I only have one word to say "K.I.S.S."
Nitro Neil Posted June 13, 2012 Posted June 13, 2012 Harry, I just hit the "View New Content" and I get to see all the new content. I don't even use the categories.
Burnout Posted June 13, 2012 Posted June 13, 2012 I like this forum BECAUSE of the separate Drag category. I don't like the "other" mags forum (and I don't participate there either) because all race cars are lumped together. I also like Under Glass the way it is. I may build only drag models, but I do like looking at all types of (completed) model cars. Don't change.

That's why I was hoping there was a way of looking at historical hits on certain categories to see what's popular and what isn't. There's no way on earth I would go to a drag racing forum, but if that's hugely popular, perhaps it should be its own category. Like NASCAR, perhaps its own subforum under Competition.
Harry P. Posted June 13, 2012 Author Posted June 13, 2012 Harry, for what my opinion is worth, I only have one word to say "K.I.S.S." And I love you too, big guy...
Foxer Posted June 13, 2012 Posted June 13, 2012 (edited) Ah well, I'm a simple car guy .. I like 'em all .. even trucks! And everything in one place suits me. But, since I use the simple "View New Content" button, I see them all anyway .. no matter how much you all want to hide and categorize everything. Edited June 13, 2012 by Foxer

Cato Posted June 13, 2012 Posted June 13, 2012 What category does this belong to? Skip-stay away from the sherry cabinet...
bbowser Posted June 13, 2012 Posted June 13, 2012 Almost a 50-50 split on votes. I like the idea of separate 'under glass' but if it's that evenly split I'd say leave it alone.
James2 Posted June 13, 2012 Posted June 13, 2012 As you all know by now, the forum has been rearranged. The hope is that most of you guys find the new arrangement a little easier to navigate and that it makes a little more sense to have the various categories arranged this way rather than the way they were before. Now I want to "fine tune" things a bit and try to make this place even better. I'm thinking of eliminating the separate "NASCAR" and "Drag" categories, and incorporating whatever is posted there now into one of three categories: On the Workbench-Basically unchanged, all "in progress" car models, no matter what the subject, would belong here. Under Glass: Stock, Street, Show, Custom Under Glass: Competition (NASCAR, Indy, Drag, F1, etc.) Doing this would eliminate the current "NASCAR" and "Drag" categories. Please vote and/or let me hear your feedback. I like the idea of splitting them up, feels more like a model show. Entries for non-competition and competition.
Kaleb Posted June 14, 2012 Posted June 14, 2012 I'm not sure about this forums software and the functions, but the one I used to run I could create a category and then sub categories under that. I still see it on some forums. You would have a mother topic then right under that link would be the sub topics. I say keep it separated I don't really care to look at nascar now and I like drag racing and regular rides.
Danno Posted June 14, 2012 Posted June 14, 2012 Skip-stay away from the sherry cabinet... Sherry who?
Mike Kucaba Posted June 14, 2012 Posted June 14, 2012 That "view new content" was one tip I got when first being active here and having all the separate categories doesn't really affect me.
Guest Posted June 14, 2012 Posted June 14, 2012 I think having only one "Under Glass" would keep that section fresher. As it is now with all of the seperate categories and such, the same models will be on the first page for weeks. Adding more "Under Glass" sections is really going to make things stale, especially in the smaller categories. I prefer to view finished models mostly and would like to be able to view all of them in one place. Not have to jump all over the forum to see them. If I wanted to do that, I would go over to SA. The "Under Glass" section is one thing that makes this forum a little better than the rest. I honestly don't see the problem with allowing everyone to post their finished builds (no matter the subject) in one place. Exposing everyone to all types of builds could be a good thing.
sjordan2 Posted June 14, 2012 Posted June 14, 2012 Sherry who? Sherry baby, who will come out tonight.
Cato Posted June 14, 2012 Posted June 14, 2012 Sherry baby, who will come out tonight. Then no more posting for you for 24 hours.
Guest Posted June 14, 2012 Posted June 14, 2012 Sherry baby, who will come out tonight. It's actually "Sherry baby wont you come out tonight"
sjordan2 Posted June 14, 2012 Posted June 14, 2012 (edited) It's actually "Sherry baby wont you come out tonight" Yes, but I had to paraphrase it for it to make sense in the post, and I thought the humor would be obvious. Here's what Ed Sullivan would have called "something for the youngsters." [media=]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y1UYclfndBY&feature=related Edited June 14, 2012 by sjordan2

Whereas I'm the opposite. I prefer separate categories so I can more easily find what I want to look at. I know this wouldn't work as well for the Big Boyz section since it's not very popular, but every other build is a pro-street build, which I have no interest in other than to occasionally see some of the details they do. Practically every other forum I've been to uses separate categories for the builds, and it seems like it wouldn't matter if it's done here due to the aforementioned "new content" button, since it would allow those of you who want to see all builds...well, be able to see all builds. But hey, as long as pickup trucks stays separate from the rest, then I'll be fine here.
Danno Posted June 15, 2012 Posted June 15, 2012 Then there is the other extreme, the corporate MBA gobbledygook (sp?) that says a change for the worse is better than no change at all. Or, even change for the worse is change some people hope for.
Fat Brian Posted June 15, 2012 Posted June 15, 2012 I don't understand only being interested in one kind of model. I can appreciate a well done build even if it's a subject I wouldn't do myself. Some of you guys make it sound like having to maybe look at something other than your chosen genre is like stepping in dog poop. Is there a way to tag a thread as being part of a given category? On a site I'm on for game modding the downloadable vehicles are all in one section but in addition to the thread title you have to choose from a list of catagories what kind of vehicle it is. There could be catagories like stock, muscle car, custom, drag, pro street, truck, semi, rat rod, NASCAR, and so on. That way you can easily identify what kind of vehicle a thread is about even if the description is vague.
