Custom Mike Posted August 17, 2012 Posted August 17, 2012 (edited) AMT's 1975 Matador, built curbside. It was a glue-bomb I picked up for $22, and it went through 4 or 5 paint jobs before I ended up with this one. I added the ground effects with sheet styrene, made new tail lights from aluminum tubing and clear styrene rod, added the funky Pegasus 3-spokes and aluminum sleeves, and a custom license plate from Best Model Cars. It's not perfect, but, it's done, and I'm off to my '50 Chebby Pickemup for the Straight Six Community Build now, so enjoy the pics! Edited August 17, 2012 by Custom Mike
Harry P. Posted August 17, 2012 Posted August 17, 2012 Now there's a model you don't see every day! Nicely done.
Bartster Posted August 17, 2012 Posted August 17, 2012 WAY out of the box! l really like this one. Bart.
Dr. Cranky Posted August 17, 2012 Posted August 17, 2012 Thanks for another chance to drool over this one. Wonderful photos too, thank you.
Custom Mike Posted August 17, 2012 Author Posted August 17, 2012 (edited) Thanks guys, it is a different car for sure. The paint fought me, but I finally won, so much for a quick and easy build, huh? Edited August 17, 2012 by Custom Mike

John Teresi Posted August 17, 2012 Posted August 17, 2012 Mike......this is SUPER COOL man......FANTASTIC!!!!!!
Gluhead Posted August 17, 2012 Posted August 17, 2012 Haha! Love it...easter egg colors, ground effects and tri-spokers and all. Somehow, it works. And who doesn't love seeing a Matador build now and then? I've got one sitting in a box that I started eons ago and never finished. Now you've got me looking at it cross-eyed wondering if I should attack it again. I just went back up and looked it over again. If you squint, it almost looks like a Corvair bumped uglies with a Mustang II and this came out 9 months later.
charlie8575 Posted August 17, 2012 Posted August 17, 2012 The Matador X is weird enough that it would customize well. This 1980s-style custom illustrates that. This is a really neat idea on a rare model. I, for one, would like to see one built stock as an Oleg Cassini designer series model. I had an opportunity to buy one once, and I wish I had. Sixx Posted August 17, 2012 Posted August 17, 2012 (edited) Took an ugly car & made it so cool!!!!!!!!!!!!! Edited August 17, 2012 by Sixx

One of my favorite kits around 1978 that I played with.
Custom Mike Posted August 18, 2012 Author Posted August 18, 2012 Wow, I never expected this kind of response to a Matador, thanks a ton guys, now I've gotta go deflate my head a bit.... Turned out awesome , Mike ! I followed your build and know the problems you had , sure am glad you didn't give up ! I rarely give up, I may set a build aside for a while, but I always come back and finish 'em off sooner or later!
Jim N Posted August 18, 2012 Posted August 18, 2012 Very cool! My first car was a 1975 Oleg Cassini Matador. It was not a very good car but I kind of miss it.
